Have you ever watched the move "Idiocracy"? The saying "Life imitating art" has never been more accurate these days.

Actually you can fix stupid, but then you will be arrested for murder.

And for the record, I would not take my Viper off the road no matter what.

I'm all about helping folks out who are stuck (sand, mud, snow, or otherwise), but I'm also of the belief that, if you intend to pull folks out of bad situations, you should carry around a stack of "release of liability" forms. Make those folks sign them before pulling them out of anywhere. Do your best not to damage anything while pulling them out, but CYA in case they're douchebags.

Around here during the summer months, cars stuck on the beach is a very common event. The sign says 4 wheel drive only, but many don't know the difference between 4WD and All-WD. The city just takes their money for the beach permit, than sits back and laughs.

I’ve been saying this for awhile now. The only thing is the movie Idiocracy’s timeline is way slower than our own.

Driving a Minivan on the Outer Banks

I’m not far from OBX, great place to wheel except when you have a minivan loaded with luggage and screaming kids stuck blocking you between the burms.
I stopped to help this one as I felt sorry for her and all I got was a smoked winch for my trouble... As I was pulling her towards the ramp, her idiot husband on the phone told her to “ Rock it loose ” ! Blew my clutches apart on my winch! Had to coil up my winch line and throw it on the front floor, not a lot of fun to start a weekend at OBX!
I told her to call her husband back and tell him to call a tow truck, my feeling sorry was won over by stupidity...

When I was stationed in Pensacola during flight training, I of course had the obligatory sports car (1966 TR-4A purchased new). I went out to Pensacola Beach in it one day to see Fort Pickens. This was in the spring of '66. I did fine on the paved road going to the Fort, but I decided to pull off the side to take some pictures. I did fine until the rear wheels hit the sand and that is as far as I got. The dry sand just started to swallow the tires.

I did have enough sense to realize that spinning my wheels would just dig holes, so after a few seconds I stopped and got out to look. Fortunately there were some enjoying the beach and several guys came over and it was an easy push to the the TR-4A back on pavement.

I never tried going off road again until I later has a real 4x4 vehicle (1987). I have also never tried driving on loose dry sand again. Not even in any of my Jeeps.

Loose dry sand swallowed an entire Egyptian army in 1446BC.

Oh, wait a minute, that wasn't loose dry sand, it was the Red sea.

Never mind.

Good Luck, L.M.

You don't even need a permit for Carova.
