So I'm about three cars back from the t-bone ready to turn right and 3 very young, very pretty girls pull up in a JKU, honk their horn at me and point to the front of my Jeep. Since they were cute, and in a Jeep, sure why not, so I wave them in. As the guy in front of me pulls forward, I let them in the guy behind me blows his horn. Instinct in me flips him off. Girls see this.

Make the right turn, get into the left lane, look over and the girls in the JKU are next to me. The girl in the back seat moons me. All I saw was a little red string disappear in the crack of her a$$.

I toot the horn in appreciation and they zoom off, cracking up

That beat a wave any day
That deserves more than a "like".

How about a "I wish I were you". I can't find an icon for that.

PICS or it didn't happen. Please tell us you had your camera out!

I was going to buy a front and rear dashcam. Now I think I'll look for a 4 way.

Good Luck, L.M.

I'm only speaking from what I experience. I wave to all Wranglers that I notice and wave back to anyone that waves to me, no matter what they're driving.

IMHO, Almost all CJ drivers wave because they're so old the drivers feel a camaraderie with all Wranglers. The same for most YJ drivers.

If I were to count, I'd bet about a third of the newer Wrangler drivers wave, with that number cut in half for female drivers. That's not my opinion. That's my experience, as seems to be mirrored by other posters.

If Sharpeturn4 is a JK driver that waves he's one of us.

I'm guessing that any Wrangler driver that doesn't wave either doesn't notice another Wrangler (could be busy watching the road) or doesn't know or doesn't care.
I hope that's the case and not that the JK drivers don't wave because they feel superior to older Wranglers (like some H-D riders will only wave to other H-D riders).

Good Luck, L.M.

No, I mean a 4 way dash cam. One to the front, one to the rear (there are plenty like this) plus a camera pointing out to each side = 4way.
If RougeWillys had a 4 way dash cam hopefully he'd post a link to his UTUBE video of his lucky encounter.

Good Luck, L.M.

I'm truly sorry to have offended you. I wouldn't have known why I was being waved at or if I didn't wave first, someone would think I was a snob. I would have picked it up, but I'm happy to learn about this before I drive off the lot.

I've never driven a vehicle that would inspire strangers to wave at me. I only get waved at now by people I know.

TX Gulf Coast wave is effective. My wave is hang loose, husband's wave is usually 3 fingers meaning 'how's ya mom and 'dem'.
Brand new stock jeeps get a wave. I always assume they are going to modify quickly. Plain ole stock jeep, no wave...should've bought a car!
Jeep wave decal, stupidest thing ever! If your to lazy to actually wave at me, hhhmmm, should've bought a car!
I fly 3 flags, American, Texas, and Coast Guard. Tons of people wave because of patriotism.

Not at all offended. Iím too old to take things personally. I just try and let people know that lifeís too short and weíre all in this together. Iíd do anything for my fellow Jeepers out there, and that includes any Jeep. I could care less what Jeep you drive. Honestly, I wave at everyone on the trail, non-Jeepers too. Some days Iíll even wave at a FJ just to see their reaction. Cheers and best of luck!

Typical East TX attitude! Not everyone want's to modify their ride to the point of sillyness.

But I digress.

Went on a trip today to Duluth, MN., about a 4 hour run. Every jeep I encountered waved, most of the time before I could, even the "plain ole stockers".....

I'm a new Jeeper...I didn't know there was animosity between models! In NC the wave is alive and well. My neighbor in his JL and his wife in her JK mentioned it to me when I bought my JK (and it's a Sahara so I guess I have double shame to bear?). Since then about 80% of the Jeeps I see either wave first or return mine. I can't always tell which model I'm passing yet so I guess I'll have to keep waving at everyone. lol.

I'm not convinced there is REAL animosity between models out on the roads. Just in a Jeep forum with a bunch of obsessive folks with loud voices and strong opinions.

It may die out with the JL.

Granted I have only seen 5 or 6 on the road, but absolutely Zero have returned the Wave.

That's kind of what I figured. Except I actually HAVE gotten glares (like slow down in a parking lot and turn head to give me the stink eye glares) from Prius drivers, so that is completely real.

I have gotten a few waves from JLs recently in metro Atlanta, made me smile to see the tradition carrying on.

Having driven a YJ, TJ, and now a JKU I wave at everyone. Donít wave to get waves, I wave to do my part in keeping the tradition alive.

I actually walked up to the soccer mom driving it who had 3 kiddies in tow, and engaged her in conversation. She told me she had never heard of the Jeep wave, and that she had bought her JK basically as a family mini-van replacement with no particular Jeep enthusiasm; she had just thought it looked 'pretty'. I am sure she and I will now wave when passing each other -we both live in the same community - but I haven't the time or energy to interview every JK owner as to why they don't wave. But I'll try and convert them when the opportunity presents itself. I think it's been said here before: many JK drivers aren't Jeep enthusiasts. They are just looking for a big shiny SUV that doesn't cost quite as much as a hummer. CJ, YJ, and especially TJ drivers really seem to possess the Jeep spirit in my area. Almost 100% wave or return a wave.

I always have a camera...

I was unaware of the wave as well, and have also owned my Wrangler a little over a Month. The wave seems to be alive and well here in South Jersey as well. People either initiate or return a wave almost 100% of time. TJ, CJ and YJs at least.

B.
I think you are correct about a lot of jku drivers, looking just to show up neighbors. Come around the Great Lakes, you will get a wave, nod, smile if i'm shifting

Iíve waved to a Jeep while driving my Prius because itís just a habit to wave, and Iíll often forget that Iím not in my Jeep at the time. Very embarrassing.

I live in southern California and Wranglers are more common down here than any other vehicle. If I waved at every Wrangler, my hand would fall off. I wave to all fellow offroaders when I'm out on trails though.

The wave is pretty strong over here in west Michigan. Women drivers is about 50/50. But as for myself, I wave to all Wranglers. From the bare bones stock Jeeps to the tricked out boulder crushers and mall crawlers. Heck, the other day I seen one of those blingy Jeeps with the 28" rims with rubber bands for tires blasting out their hippity hop music. I still gave them a wave. It's all about respect.

Back in the CJ, YJ days, people buying jeeps were real jeep fanatics and in poor numbers, therefore when you saw another jeep, you would wave for sure.... however, at the beginning of the YJ, until the 90s, most CJ owners were snobbing the YJ because it wasn't a real jeep with its square headlights and fancy dash...omg!!!

Then came the TJ... again, fanatics were buying them and of course the wave continued, except for most YJ owners cause the TJ was not a real jeep with its coil suspension and flashers in the fenders and car like dash omg...

Then came the JK, but more so the JKU which was snobbed by CJ,YJ, and TJ and even 2 door JK owners because of its size, but more so its 4 doors. But then, people that had dreamed all their life of owning a jeep but never did... and now had a family, saw a window of opportunity.... Sell to the wife the idea to make the JKU the family vehicle.... well, that guy was snobbed by previous models, but waved to all jeeps all the time since his dream had come true.... but when his wife drove the jeep, of course she found it stupid and couldn't care less and didn't wave, let alone return a wave...... that story was repeated in hundreds of thousands of families.

Fast forward to today, there's a jeep or more at every street corner around here in South eastern Ontario-Quebec Canada, 90% jku's and the wave is basically dead.

I get the odd wave and I always return them since I've been doing that since the mid-80's, unless I didn't see them, but jeeps are to each sides, ahead and back.

As a new JLU owner, I am being snobbed by the JK owners (which is where I come from)cause my JLU is not a real jeep with its suv/car like dash, fender mounted flashers and luxuries....

Funny how history repeats itself ain't it.

So if I don't wave or wave back, I didn't see you cause I was busy looking elsewhere or adjusting my radio or talking with my wife. Cause although I used to prepare waving or returning a wave when I saw an oncoming jeep, I've been denied the wave so often that I do not expect it anymore nor will I go out of my way to wave if I am concentrating on other stuff.... I do feel like crap when I realize I just passed a jeep that waved at me and I didn't wave back!!!!!

Cheers and Jeep-on

It’s alive! Here in Norcal the wave is alive and well. When I started driving My first jeep in the late 70s, I was always under the impression that the jeep wave was to give props to a fellow jeeper who has modified his rig showing his passion, Etiquette was the lesser modified jeep would wave to the highly modified Rig to signify our camaraderie in our passion for the jeep . The highly modified rig would therefore in return wave back signifying kudos for your build. It’s all a sign of respect for the hard work dedication and money we dump in to these endless pits of joy . We feel each other‘s pain in the cost of maintenance, upgrades and upkeep for a vehicle of this stature. The jeep wave has always been an unspoken rule amongst jeepers. Whether it be a thumbs up ,the two fingered peace sign, one finger, two finger, three finger lift ,a nod of the head, lifting of the eyebrows or a toot of the horn , etc.etc. As far as waving to a stock jeep or the newer surge of JKJL SUVs driven by the soccer mom’s of the world… It’s hit and miss with the wave. Don’t take it personally ,Hopefully they will figure it out… as far as the animosity between different models of jeep, true jeepers really don’t care about that. Until then keep on wavin !!!

Shoot, now that's a badge of honor. If I had a manual transmission I might intentionally downshift right next to a Prius giving me the stinkeye.

Funny you would mention that, cause around here, there's hardly any place to offroad and most people that do take their jeeps offroad are the stockers or intelligently/ moderately built ones.

Those with highly modified jeeps, spend their time in coffee shop parking lots where they gather to talk jeep. They really are mall crawlers.

And unfortunately, just like the overlifted pickup trucks and "ŗ la" fast and furious modified shitboxes, they are mocked and made fun off and seen as rednecks or douchebags by the majority. Easy to see, most around them in traffic have that mocking grin and shake their head in dismay.

I guess that things are seen differently depending what region of the world you are in, but I don't expect anyone around here accepting a redneck douchebag ahead of them in the Jeep hierarchy and initiate a wave if that's the etiquette ... except me that is.... was once there and in my heart will always be.
