Paper Maps

Okay, I would put this in the overlanding discussion but no one looks there-

I'm looking for a big 'ol paper map of the US. I don't need, or want, recommendations for digital maps. I'm a techie and an engineering student, I'm well versed in technology, and I know the digital maps I like

What I'm looking for is a paper map of the US down to at least state routes, or county highways would be even better. I'm looking for a wall map size, since that's the only reasonable size for it to be useful/readable

To explain a little: I'm going to be taking some East Coast-West Coast and Northeast-Southeast kinds of road trips over the next couple of years, and I like the perspective of the entire trip mapped out on paper. I find interstates boring, and so I'd like to be able to draw the routes out instead of fighting google.

Do any of you lovely people know where I could get one of these? I couldn't find any that met that criteria while searching, but it's also a bit of a difficult search. Or, does anyone know reputable and affordable map makers?

Thanks!

Do you have a AAA membership? Those dudes have plenty of free large maps.

Does Rand-McNally still make the big USA book? Here's a link

I don't know if you are going to find a Nationwide map with the detail you want. Wally World sells a variety of Rand McNally map books for $8-15.

I have a large book that has pages for every state. I also have a book for Arizona. Putting the whole US on one map will lose a lot of detail.

The AAA suggestion is a good one, though there are better maps out there (I guess you get what you pay for...). Even though a little more pricey option, the DeLorme series of maps are really good for each state.

I have the Delorme books for Oregon and California. Very detailed. But they are not sea to shining sea.

A full map of the 48 contiguous US would be good to do planning on using the internet for more detailed info. I have found that the Jeep's navigation system has some route planning allowing for bypassing major routes, tolls, ferry's etc.

It can route me from Portland to Seattle avoiding I-5 and doubling my drive time

National Geographic used to sell some really nice large maps.

Some book stores would stock these at one time. I don't know if they still do or not.

I just googled US wall map and found this:

This is a National Geographic map hanging on my office wall.
Roughly 3' by 4'. Please ignore the flash and lamp reflections.
The state by state atlas's are pretty detailed. Smileyor reminds us of the DeLorme books. I think I have a Colorado and Utah in my truck.

Good Luck, L.M.
