build thread picture issue with postimage.org

postimage.org had something happen and they said i needed to change the picture links from postimage.org to postimage.cc, but i cant edit my posts to do it.

they also said i could ask the forum admins to update database or use search&replace plugins. if anyone could look into it, i would really appreciate it!

For those that get it, no explanation is needed. For those that don't, no explanation is possible.

im not even sure how many different post i have with pictures, let alone know where they are. basically, every single picture i have posted from postimage.org is broken, which is every picture i have ever posted. i cant even go into my statistics to find every post i have made with pictures since it only goes back 250 posts.

is there no way to change every link from postimage on the forum from postimg.cc to postimg.cc so that they all work again?

this is the email postimage sent back to me.

Hello,

postimg.cc domain is locked by Registry, no prior notice.

You need to edit posts and replace "postimg.cc" to "postimg.cc"

Easy way is update database or use search&replace plugins. Please ask forum admins to do it.

Best regards,

Postimage support

I thought I could do them one at a time. Seems like too much work for me, so I cheated. your images should be showing now.

@HelenaAG , could you elaborate on your 'cheat'?

Looks like I've got the same issue with PostImage links in my posts as well.

I didn't realize there was a problem, as I could see my thumbnails in my own posts, but found if I click on them, the links don't resolve.

I referenced one of my posts to another forum member, and he replied:

"All dem photos are busted. "

So I started digging, and found the issue at PostImage's end, and then found this thread.

If you could work your magic on my links as well, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks Lee, I'll try to detail what I'm seeing from my end.

THIS is the post I had referenced to another user. He replied the "photos are busted". I asked whether he could see the thumbnails, but didn't get an answer. Note that this post was originally submitted 2/6/18.

From my end, if you click directly on the photo, it goes to the "postimages.org" home page (not to the image). But clicking on the "This image has been resized" bar at the top of the photo takes you to the original sized image at "s26.postimg.cc".

Trying to put a timeline to this, it also affects photos that I had posted since 1/12/18. Which I believe may have been prior to their debacle.

This behavior also happens to images that I had posted HERE. Note that this post was submitted 5/1/18.

But... The photos that I had posted HERE on 12/28/17 respond differently.

Clicking directly on the photo takes you to the photo linking page at "postimg.cc", whereas clicking on the "This image has been resized" bar takes you to the original sized image at "s26.postimg.cc".

I cannot see how these image links are structured in the post, so i don't know why they react differently.

I realize this is an issue brought on by postimage, and truly appreciate you digging into this. I hope this helps in diagnosis.

@HelenaAG

Lee, I did a little digging after I typed up the last reply.

I went over to the postimage site and took a look at the layout of the "Hotlink for forums" links they provide.

Wouldn't you know... They vary. A lot. Some start off with "postimage.org/", others start off with "postimg.cc/image/*/". Obviously, this could explain why some linked photos react differently than others.

So... We may be on to something.

Did your fix somehow find a way to update WF post links to the new hotlinks offered by postimage?

I've got an email in to them asking why the differences.

I'll let you know if/when they reply.

Thanks again.

Alrighty...

Got a reply from postimage.

"When image resolution is less than 1280x800, the URL refers to the main page."

So I guess that's their setup.

I'll pay more attention to what I upload there. I'll try to remember to upload at least 1280x800. That should have a little more consistency on their hotlinks.

Thanks for fixing the links, Lee.

Sorry to poke a broken horse - broken from somewhere else...

sorry for the late response. I looked over all your posts and i don't see an issue with most of the images. there was one that was missing image, i just went into your post edit mode and resaved the posts and the images started showing. I do notice that it's taking longer to load these images since you're using bb code to call to postimages's site. depending on the size of the image, it could take longer for some other people to see them. or sometimes it could fail. they just need to refresh in my post.

Thanks a bunch, Lee.

I appreciate you taking the time to verify my post's images. Above and beyond!

Glad they all appear to be working now. Odd that I had been told the links were broken - I just didn't know what others could see vs. what I was seeing.

Thanks again.

if they can give me a screen shot of what they're seeing, it might help me narrow down the issue.
