Angry I want to throw my IPAD! This site is SO SLOW!!!

I Swear, in 10 mins, I've been kicked off my username probably 4 times. Of those 10 mins, 8 mins were trying to log on. Every attempt to open a page is like going back to aol with dial up. I haven't visited here in maybe 6 months and nothing has changed. Unless this site can process simple clicks and typing, it's worthless to me. PLEASE FIX! And this newsletter pop up box, holy shit!!!! I X'd on it and it keeps popping back up every few seconds!!

It runs No better on Windows either.

Installed it, it's bit different, will have to get use to it.

Really wish this user face ran properly. Still annoyed but appreciate the suggestion.

It was constantly crashing safari on my Macs. Install the latest MacOs beta and it works fine now. It blocks popups and ad tracking. The are a lot of screwy things going on with the ads here.

I just upped my internet speed to 10mbps. about a month ago, this site was working ok, but tonight, July 27th, it is slow. must be a lot of internet traffic, Probable the hundreds of people/Jeeps at Jeep Invasion at Great Smokey Mtns. NC

I have 300mb/s and the site is as slow... Must be the high user traffic plus the 6 million web spiders working harder than usual.

It's always slow..Still slow now.. Just loaded a thread and it took 7 seconds.. better than the usual 15-20 seconds, but it's still horrible.
I find myself coming here less and less because of it.

I'm on a laptop with a strong connection and it's slow.

A couple observations on the iPad stuff:

- the ads make it on an iPad to where you can't listen to iTunes and be surfing the site (pretty annoying)

- if it is totally out of control slow on the iPad, a couple things: close some of the tabs you have, double click the home button and swipe up to close some of the applications open, and lastly go for the old school restart of the iPad. That stuff has made the site tolerable.

As a whole, the site has gotten worse since the pr0n deal of a couple months ago. It's good to cinch stuff down, but might be a bit too tight, I dunno as I don't know the topology or structure or any of that stuff- and it would get over my head pretty quick.

FYI, from my laptop it just took over 30 seconds to load that last reply.

I think it's some of the ad content, but I'm armchairing it by saying that.

This site has been slow for at least the last year that I can recall. It doesn't matter if I use my home computer, work computer, or mobile devices. I've done all the tech things to improve on my end, but the site is still SLOW.

I just accept it and trudge along....
Maybe at some point, WF will get moved to a new server setup and maybe even get new forum software.

Hey Longtallsally,

When you access the site on the iPad, are you using the full version or the enhanced mobile view (emv) on which browser? Have you tried using Tapatalk?

For everyone else accessing the site via laptop/PC/desktop, with the slowness of the site pages loading up - do you notice if it's hanging onto any scripts at the bottom left corner? Please provide us with screenshots like so:

Also, please let us know what device/browser you are using and if the lagging appears more so on certain pages or generally all over the site.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Cheers,
Natalie

Ok so i'm connecting from a desktop using Google Chrome. Operating system: Windows 10.

To load in the website to home it takes about 5 seconds.
Here is the link of a gyazo GIF image of the scripts.

I also did a test of changing a page on a thread, and that took much longer.
It seems to stop at "Waiting for www.wranglerforum.com"
But the rest goes by rather quickly.

I'm also not on a metered connection. A quick speed test resulted in 65mbps Download

Perhaps it is the 18 trackers and site analytics widgets that have to load every time a page is refreshed or invoked...

VerticalScope, the owner of this forum, is the culprit. They're selling every click of information on this forum and a thousand others to anybody with a checkbook.

If youre using safari on an Ipad, definitely use a pop blocker. I use 1Blocker(its free with basic rules) and works perfect. Loads just as fast as my desktop. However this site does get rather slow sometimes.

Here, source files so you don't have to squint.

Wranglerforum_Verticalscope - Album on Imgur

For Google Chrome browser: Ghostery and AdBlock (not AdBlocker, not AdBlock Pro, not AdBlock Plus.... AdBlock (from Getadblock.com)).

Ghostery blocks some Google adsense stuff so if you're using Google to search for stuff to buy and you can't click on a link, right-click and open in another tab then click the link telling Ghostery to let it pass. I highly recommend this extension.

This. Mods try to act like its anything but this.

The site is SLOW. There is no need to provide the Mods with any further details. I've read through several of these threads with plenty of supporting information and it all gets ignored. Nothing changes.

I barely come to this website.

This site is super glitchy. Even now my android tablet keyboard is lagging. Never happens on F150 forum or Corvette forum. Both have WAY more traffic than here.

I never have glitch issues but mostly browse from Chrome on Windows 7 and Firefox on Windows 10. I am a paid member and that did reduce quite a bit of the ads.

It is slower than I'd expect. I think the ads absolutely play a role but I also think the server/database is part of the problem. I'm not convinced vBulletin works well with a site of this size. Would love to know if the database is on a flash array or spinning disk as well.

99% of the time for me, it's waiting for a response from wranglerforum.com. It's also faster very early in the morning, EST.

It's generally glitchy on phones and tablets but stable on computers, just SLOW.

It's the ads and scripts and I think that @JasonMG is correct in his hypothesis that the database is hosted on either insufficent hardware or at a lower-tier hosting site. vBulletin can handle the traffic of this forum NP.

Here is an entertaining test. There are several website speed tests out there. My favorite this week is https://tools.pingdom.com if you test Wranglerforum.com from, Dallas Texas it times out at 37+ seconds load time, 7MB+ page size, and nearly 1000 requests. By comparison CNN.com loaded in 8.73 seconds, used 334 requests, and page size was 3.2MB. That means that this forum takes 6x longer to load, requires 2x-3x more data because of all the ads, scripts, and hidden data, and 3x the page and link requests of CNN.

I'll say it here as I've said it on a dozen other forums I am a member of when VerticalScope took them over: this company is a data mining company. They're not a technology company. They assign resources (staff) to forums based on advertising revenue. I think this forum comes in pretty low on their priority list.

This has crashed twice trying to type out a reply. I'm using only apple products and it's abysmal the speed to access anything on the forum. PC is even worse. Tapatalk is a clunky mess that works at times. Over the last year it has gotten exponentially worse. It's painful to use either.

I have slowdown problems when I open multiple threads on different tabs. Both Win10 with Firefox v54.10.x and the latest Mac and Safari which I can't check versions from work, but I have updates turned on so the latest...

Anyway, both configurations are slow for me.

I tried from my phone earlier today to respond to a PM because I have a few things for sale in the Marketplace. Talk about USELESS on a mobile device! WOW! I can't imagine that anybody that administers the back-end of this site has every attempted to access it with a mobile device because it is blatantly obvious that something is terribly wrong.

@AndresJeep2010 - thanks for providing those GIF images. Which skin are you using the site on? Typically pages take several seconds to load for me as well, in both v1.0 and v2.0. You can use the Quick Style Chooser at the bottom left hand corner of every page on the site.

Give that a try and let us know if there's an improvement in speed for you.

@Mr.Maim - even with your adblocks, the site is still slow? Same question to AndresJeep, have you tried the site on both skins? Also on your phone, which layout are you using on your browser - enhanced mobile view (emv - looks more like an 'app') or the full version which looks like how you would see it on your computer (need to pinch to zoom)? Or did you use it on Tapatalk? What exactly wasn't working for you?

Apologies for the 21 questions, we need details so we can replicate these issues as best as we can to resolve it.

Let us know and we'll proceed from there - thank you for your patience and understanding.

Cheers,
Natalie
