This forum is really going downhill

Itís almost unusable. You people have really chosen to monetize this thing. As a regular paid contributor I like to quickly drop in without logging in to just see what new threads there are and the forum is crawling with adds. So many in fact that it keeps re sizing the page for 3 minutes as it loads more adds.

The content of these adds is disgusting, topics such as lung cancer liver disease. Iíve been a member on plenty of forums in the past and never seen anything approaching whatís going on here. And itís a damn shame because the subject and purpose of the forum is Jeeps! Why would the Jeep forum have to be corrupted so bad? Itís like a dog with fleas. Itís getting hard to take this site seriously much. Why us?

Heya Marceatac - we are working on updating some sites to the cloud and new templates which are speeding things up.

Unfortunately, ads are needed to keep the site running by paying server and staff costs.

The adds are just insane. Now we got adds popping up in between the replies in the threads. Car commercials. Adds for toenail fungus treatment. Adds that if you mistakenly click on them capture and lock your browser. The buttons on some of the adds are more sensitive than they should be. Iíve launched adds by not even touching them. Iím just looking that direction.

I think you got got adds running on this site that you guys donít even get paid for, its just out of hand. I canít even scroll the page without opening some advertisement. Iím beginning to wonder if the previous owners of this forum didnít sell it to three gypsies living in Siberia who in turn, turned it into a cash cow. Hoping for a return to the good ol days on this forum.

Typically ads on forums are generated based on your recent searches, recently visited pages, cookies content (your browsing history), etc. I don't know that this forum's ad software does that but if it does you've likely got lung cancer or toenail fungus in your cookies.

Ad Block Plus is your friend. It's free, and on this page alone it's reporting to me that it's blocked 24 ads/images/etc.

I think it depends on what device you're on, too. I'm usually at a desktop running Chrome on Win 7 and don't get any popups or ads inserted in the threads. I also run Ad Blocker Plus, so there's that.

I know trying to forum or web surf on a Kindle Fire is a new adventure in rage from all the ads and the page jumping up and down as it loads.

I just started using Tapatalk on my phone for her forum. All the pop up ads are in Tapatalk not WF. When I use the Computer or even the iPad I donít get the ridiculous popups I do on Tapatalk.

Whatís difficult is the content of the adds comes from the seedy underbelly of the internet. I have no problem with the vendors adds or anything of a Jeep related nature. And that should support the forum. Itís a hobby forum. Just like so many others out there.

Youíre not going to buy a home in Marthaís Vineyard running a hobby forum. I use the forum across several mobile devices and I donít want to have to be logged in on all of them simultaneously. If you have adds accidentally launching then putting cookies on your tablet now itís attracting even more click bait garbage. It just snowballs. Like I said before itís like a dog with fleas. And it didnít used to be this way. Iíve used a tablet on WF for years. Never had trouble like this.

Mac products seem to have the least amount of pop ups.

if you were logged in, you wouldn't see those adds. remember paying members have the ability to reduce the adds displayed. maybe you should log in.

This sounds like broken behavior, or perhaps malware. Ads you should never see on the site include popups, ones that force your browser screen to look at them, auto-playing with sound, or anything inappropriate. If you do see any of that, it could be that our Ad filter is failing and needs a patch job.

If you are getting popups, can you grab the link for that popup ad and send it my way? We'll track and block. A screenshot of it would be useful as well.

At this time of year, ad system networks get flooded with an overabundance of bad ad types and some are designed to break through filters. We'll do our best to stop them

This is a bit a a misleading number based on how ads load on the site. All you should see when signed in is a top banner ad, 2 side bar ads, and a bottom banner ad, but they aren't stagnant. If you linger on a page for an hour, the ads will change to new ones, rotating through a pool of available and targeted banners. An ad blocker will drain that entire pool at once, giving you a larger number then you would actually see.

I donít agree. For all the new Jeep people out there who are lurkers, that are non registered and are trying to decide how owning a Jeep might fit into their existence the adds are a beating they donít need.

This is how you get new members. Also for the vendors that do support the site, this is a valuable revenue stream as newbie people are the ones buying the hardware. Itís short sighted to say if youíre not logged in tough crap.

Thanks Kevin for the thoughtful informative reply. I know you guys are trying to do your best.

Minimal ads on notebook and phone

I'm running Windows 10 Edge on my notebook...no plugins. This is what I see...which I think is pretty minimal for not being a paying supporting member. Even before I joined the forum, this is what I was presented:

This is what I see on my 950XL smartphone running Windows Mobile OS:

...and that is the last of the ads/banners that I see even though there are a few more topic threads not shown in my pics.

I am logged in.. Adblock was blocking 38 items before hitting the reply tab. 24 items blocked while typing this.. Before login.... 47 items blocked.

I can't even come here on my tablet because the pages keep freezing, then reloading. This is the only web site that does it.

Iím a new member, so I donít know the history of this site. However, itís the longest loading site that visit. I keep my devices as clean as a whistle and have blockers on for much of the pop up stuff. I also have a bleeding 80 mbps down and 20 up. Itís the adds, no two ways about it. I paid $60 to support the site and I still have adds; any way supporting members can have an ad free environment?

Going to past a quote of my message about that number you are seeing from my previous reply

The freezing and reloading is troubling though. What kind of tablet are you using and what browser?

When you notice the site is loading slow for you, can you check the bottom of your screen for any "waiting for" messages? If you see any that linger on the screen while you are waiting for the page to load, can you grab a screenshot?
