15" Wheels wont work????

Hello all. It's my 1st post so bare with me. I just recently purchased a 2008 JK. I stopped today at my local custom automotive shop and asked for a price on some Duratraks 33X12.5X15s. They told me that since my JK came with 17" stock wheels, that 15" wheels would not work because if the brake calipers. Is that true? Thanks in advance!!

Welcome!! I have seen where folks are running 15" wheels I think if you do a search you will find info on it.

Welcome to the Forum!

It depends on the wheels but it is possible depending on the backspacing which needs to be low to push out the inboard flange to avoid interference with the brake calipers. If you don't already understand the anatomy of a wheel and the terminology so you can understand everyone's input:

15" ALLOY wheels will fit, provided they have enough backspacing (3.75".) 15" steelies generally do not fit. My last jeep had 15" level 8 trackers with 33x1250x15 duratracs.

15x8 level 8 trackers with 33x12.5 duratracs are "the combo." Check out the pics section.

Even steel wheels will work but you have to take down a small corner of the caliper. It's not really a big deal. I ran 15's until upgrading my tie rod, and it would not work. The Synergy joints are just too big.

Just mounted 15's this weekend, some steel wheels hit the caliper just a bit.
Easy to grind off.

I have seen 2 JK's not need grinding with 15" steelies. all depends on the casting of the caliper.

My 07 didn't need any grinding to fit 15's.

Could be caliper casting or just the wheels.

^^^ This. According to discount tire direct, the level 8 trackers were designed specifically for the JK

I just picked these up. MB razor. These are 17 but they are available in 15 as well. I believe they have same back spacing as the trackers

Disregard! I was wrong. They don't seat properly even though they don't scrub the calipers. DO NOT BUY THESE.
