2014 JK manual transmission noise

So, I missed a shift today at high rpm. The 2nd-to-3rd shift. Now, when I shift into FIFTH gear, it makes a grinding noise every time. When I shift through the gears, there's a short pause right before it goes into gear. Something that's happening underneath to slow the engagement, or something mechanical happening. When I put it into 5th gear, there is no pause, it just immediately goes in and makes a farting noise. It still goes into gear easily, though.

What did I fark up?

Charles.

So I rebuild transmissions and there isn't anything that could have been damaged on fifth gear by missing a 1st to 2nd shift. You may be just noticing a noise that you were looking for before.

When you go to engage a gear a brass "step ring" will engage first. This brings the gear up to road speed (the speed of the main shaft) so that the syncros will interlock. When the speeds match the gear is engaged.

If it is really noticeable I'm not sure what it could be. Best to keep an eye on it and take it in if it gets more noticeable.

It's quite loud. In all other gears, I can change gears without the clutch. I can pop it into neutral and lightly push it into the gear I want, and when engine speeds match it slides into gear. If I try this into 5th gear now, it immediately tries to go into gear, and grinds. It doesn't hang out under light pressure until engine speeds match. (I don't shift this way normally, I just tried it out).

shifting at high rpm's and not using the clutch...

Are you just trying to ruin your clutch / transmission.

I expect to see you in a " Jeep 6 sp trans sucks" thread in the near future.

It's always a good idea to shift a manual transmission by utilizing the clutch.

Not that I'm having any issues with my 2013 JKR but Ive noticed that anytime I let someone else drive my jeep when I start driving my jeep again it feels weird when I shift like gears not going in right away or just harder to shift just not the same. But it comes back to "normal" after a day or so.

X2

Why else would you get a manual.

"I would love to let you barrow my vehicle but sorry it is a manual! " I hate letting people drive my vehicles.

That's what I taught, my wife doesn't drive a manual, oldest daughter neither, but my youngest one wanted to drive manual, got her a used Saturn Ion in really good shape for dirt cheap, after 2 years still going strong and she's making some guys jealous on how she drives manual so good.

So few days ago I was away for 4 days, first thing I know, she drove my Jeep and now she wants one.
