2015 JK Oil Filter Question

Hi,

I was watching videos online and it looks like the older JKs used a different oil filter. I bought a Purolator L36296. I attached an image of the oil filter. Anyways, I noticed in some videos that the oil filters snap into the oil filter cap. I couldn't figure out how to get this to snap into the cap. I inserted the filter into the housing first and it did snap into place there and then I torqued down the cap afterwards. Did I do this incorrectly, if so, how does this snap into the cap?

Thank you for your help!

Best,

Chris

That's the correct one. It should snap into the cap, at least mine do. Just press firmly. Make sure you remove the old "O" ring & put a little oil on the new one.

You should note the '12 & '13 model pentastars have a different filter, just make sure you get the correct one for your '15.

Also, I recommend the mopar filter.

Thank you Blue Baby Sound. I did use a Mopar filter last time and it did snap into the cap. The service center wasn't opened today and the service manager at the dealer said the ones at the auto parts store will work just fine. I guess the Purolator ones do not snap into the cap...

I put K&N filter in last time and it did not snap in, but when I screwed it in and then backed out, it came out with the cap, fully inserted

I did find my answer on another thread located:

https://www.wranglerforum.com/f202/20...ce-699153.html

"^^^Read below!!!!!!!

Attachment 1591721

^^^The filter on the left is for the 2013, and prior. It snaps into the oil filter cap.
The filter on the right, is for the 2014, and 2015, and it snaps into the oil filter housing, pointed down........."

Thanks for the input everyone!

Ok, so I ended buying the Mopar oil filter today and that indeed does snap into the oil cap very very easily. So if anyone does read this thread, DO NOT waste your money on non-OEM oil filters, at least not Purolator.
