2015 Update From Superchips

I got this email yesterday from Superchips and it sounds like their answer to tuning the 2015's is going to be replacing the ECU. Is it just me or does this sound like a warranty nightmare waiting to happen?

Here is the email I got:

"Dear Valued Customer,

We want to hear from you! Based on our product registration, we show that you have purchased a product for a 2013-2015 Jeep Wrangler from Superchips. There is an opportunity for Superchips to offer Flashpaq and TrailDash tuning for 2015 Jeep Wrangler JKs in the form of an ECU swap. This solution and process would not change anything for you. You would purchase a Flashpaq or TrailDash. Upon plugging in your device, you would be prompted to contact Superchips customer service. Next steps would include the Superchips team coordinating a swap for your ECU. Superchips would send a modified ECU to you with a return shipment label in the box. You would then send your stock ECU to Superchips at no cost to you. Once you install the modified ECU from Superchips you are ready to use the product you purchased and "flash" your ECU.

If you would like to keep your stock ECU you could purchase a modified ECU from Superchips for approximately $400-$500. This would leave you with your stock ECU and an "Unlocked" ECU from Superchips that can be used with a Superchips tuner. The modified ECU from Superchips will have some hardware modifications, but will act as a normal ECU and can be updated by the dealer or returned to stock.

Our team is interested in gathering feedback from our customers. Please review the following questions to provide us with some insight as to how you may view this option in the marketplace. At Superchips we're committed to delivering the most cutting-edge products that deliver on value, power, and overall drivability. Thanks in advance for your opinion."

What are your thoughts on this and would you be willing to do this to a brand new JK? I am not sure I am but I would love to have some of the abilities the trail dash offers like the lock in 4Hi especially.

That'd be interesting. I think I'd be a "no" on that one

Not to mention you need this added cost on top of still needing to purchase their tuner. That's a lot of coin for a minor power increase.

I think they'll work it out so you only need the tuner. Problem there is you're left with only the "unlocked" ecu = Chrysler nightmare. If you want to have a stock ecu to swap in, pony up an additional $500

I was able to buy a used PCM off eBay for $150 last week, so keep in mind it isn't that expensive if you wanted a spare one around...

I am glad to see I am not the only one thinking hell no on this. I can only imaging the nightmare if you took it in for an electrical issue and Jeep found out you had replaced the ECU. No way they would warranty anything after that.

Nope, they did this for the Dodge Magnums, and dealer can tell that is not the original ECU, unless they found a way to totally clone the stock ECU. I would not bet on it.

Changing ECU to increase a few ponies is a waste yes but... for any of you planning to go forced induction it will be an upgrade youll need to do eventually.
