Hey all,

I have one of those combo, multi-port, USB and Cigarette adapter port "PDU"s and have had a hard time getting even the strongest 3M VHB tape to secure it to the dash. I'm looking for a recommendation for some sort of adhesive that could be used (possibly in combination with the double sided tape) to help with this. Obviously I'd like it to be "non-permanent" so I could use some dental floss or something to remove it in the future without damaging the dash.

I've had good luck with E6000 with other projects but this might be a bit TOO strong/permanent.

Anyone have any other good recommendations to try?

The best thing I’ve found is double sided Gorilla Tape. Clean the surface first with rubbing alcohol. Would like to find something better but that’s what I’m using now.

Id say check out gorilla glue double sided tape. It works well in many application. But with that said depending on where you mount it vs how hot it may get; any tape will sag. You could also do a combination with a double sided tape with a backing plate with an epoxy on the unit to the backing plate.

I call it liquid duct tape. It works for everything! I use it inside and outside. Peels right off after being on for years. I have yet to see it leave a mark, although I never stuck it on a dash. Have stuck it on paint with no problems.

Interesting... This seems to be the direction I'm thinking (in combination with some double sided tape as mentioned above... I'm mounting the unit vertically, near my right knee on the side of the dash....if you are looking at your steering wheel it's at the 4 o'clock position. It's perfect but as mentioned above....heat causes the tape to sag.

ShoeGoo sounds like it might be a winner.

I have used 3M External Use double sided tape for several things. Most have stayed on for years, and I spend half the year with the top off. (It only goes up if raining heavily.)


As 5th4x said, though, the important part is to clean the surface first with methylated spirits or an alcohol swab.

I used double sided tape once and after about two years it permanently bonded and put a permanent mark in the dash.

Now if I have to mount something, I put a dab of Shoe Goo and tape in place over night. Remove the tape and it stays.

I used some 3M strips similar to the ones that we get with out EZ passes. Used it to secure my BT mic to the dash. Been there without issue for over three years.

Maybe try the two stickie parts from some Command Strips?

I removed a couple of the things I used the Outdoor 3M tape on, & gave it a wipe with eucalyptus oil, & you can't tell that anything was ever there.
