Advice needed ASAP: JK Transmission/Traction control issue

HI everyone,
New to the group as of this morning. My daughter's 2015 JK unlimited Sports auto transmission was not able to engage in gear yesterday while she was at college. The traction control light and ABS light came on, she was not able to go into gear and the vehicle seems to stutter and cannot get up a small hill. I was able to Facetime her and walk her through several scenarios to see if she can at least get to a safe spot to park.

1. Had her throw the vehicle in 4H and drive, it engages and drive but then experience the same issue.

2. Had her put in reverse and drive for a bit, reverse is fine.

3. Had her put the vehicle into 4L and drive to a safe place, the jeep was able to engage the gear and drove slowly to AAMCO.

4. I had her put everything back to 2H and re-test to see if the tranny was somehow got lose? and after that the jeep ran fine..

5. The Jeep is at AAMCO this morning for them to look at, I'm thinking it may just be somehow slipped out of gear? but this is our first Jeep experience with this..

Please advise if you know if this issue or if its a common problem and fixes. My nervous daughter and I really appreciate immediate feedback. It's difficult to be far from her school and try to diagnose this.

Regards,
HM

A 2015 will have a 5/100000 warranty so unless over 100000 miles take it to dealer.

I am also guessing the tc got shifted out of 2 h and was not fully engaged.

That sounds similar to what happened to me when I had broken the teeth off of one of the gears in my front diff. In my case, it was still under warranty and dealer fixed it. the crazy thing is, it wouldn't run right in 2H, even though it was front diff that was broken. I didn't try putting it in 4H or 4L, just had it towed to dealer.

Thank you all for the quick reply. AAMCO wasnt able to replicate what happened, they will take it out for a long drive but the issue is real. We made an appointment to a local dealership at her college to see if they can diagnose the issue. Trans should still be under warranty as it is only 36K. and less than 5 years. If anyone else can chime in that would be great.. like to have knowledge going in to deal with dealership.

Gratitude

When it first occurred and you say it wouldn't go into gear, could she physically not shift the gear selector into drive or it just didn't seem like the transmission was engaging? Often when the ABS and Traction Control lights come on during normal driving, (ie the wheels aren't actually slipping or spinning) the Jeep will go into limp mode. Once the Jeep is power cycled, limp mode will be off unless the codes are thrown again that caused it initially. This would happen intermittently to my 13 and it was simply that the steering wheel was not perfectly centered. I re-centered the steering wheel and it has not happened since.

@dwtgolden this describes my daughter's situation almost perfectly.. I'm learning about the "limp mode" issues now and it seems like that's what happened. Not sure if this will occur again or not.. we replaced a few sensors in the rear and its running fine for now. thanks for everyone's responses, really appreciate it.
