Alpine i209-wra Head Unit (Pics and Review)

I recently had mine installed with backup camera as well. It does everything that it says it does. You have to play around with the sound settings to get the sound right, but for the most part I like it. There are tons of configurations and settings. Make sure you work with your installer to adequately configure the unit as you like it. I believe that its overpriced for what you get, but it does look nice and is way better than the 430N. There was an issue with hearing Siri and the Alpine rep came to meet me and get things fixed. It turns out there is some standard wiring that needs to be switched up to get Siri's voice to be heard on Jeeps. I would love to see the screen be used for more (i.e. show artwork of music, graphic EQ, etc.) I haven't seen much else on it so I figured I would give me own review. I'm not sure the additional $1k+ for the x model would be worth it. I wish Apple would improve their carplay functionality and apps (I'm sure they will at some point). At least I feel like my car's technology is somewhat updated now. I'm happy to answer any other questions. The backup camera is great since I've got kids who are like ninjas. I tried to attach some pictures as well.

Yes, its very pricey. Not sure its worth it unless you have some extra cash laying around and want to improve the look of the interior of your jeep.

Those systems are definitely nice, but damn thatís expensive. I think I have maybe $1200 in my system with the Pioneer 4200NEX, Sirius tuner, backup camera, amp and subs and speakers. I actually put a pair of the Alpine upgrade 3.5Ē speakers in the upper dash and some little 6.5Ē subs in the lower dash. Doesnít go super low (itís a Jeep, right) but it hits pretty hard. Iím really enjoying it.

I'm looking to upgrade and I've looked at the i209-WRA. But for the life of me I can't understand what it does above any other Apple/Android Play touch screen head to justify the $2,000 price tag...?

The i209 is water proof... (Nice, but not worth 2 GRAND)

The i209 has a jeep specific trim ring... (Nice, but not worth 2 GRAND)

Seriously... If this thing has some magical capabilities I'm unaware of that make it worth spending twice the price of any other comparable Apply/Android Play head unit, please enlighten me.

Looks like this model will fit more budgets and isn't too much different unless I am missing something.

The i109 doesn't have a CD player or built in GPS. It's also not water resistant.

Replaced a water damaged 8200nex with the i209-wra, looks and sounds great and the screen/buttons are really nice to use, but the light sensor on it seems way to sensitive. In android auto it keep switching between day/night mode and is super distracting, does yours do the same thing?

Dimmer Settings

I don't have any issues with the dimmer. If you go to setting and turn the dimmer off, it works best. I have Key Illumination level at 2 and screen dimmer level at min.

How did you get the rear backup lines to stay on the screen when backing up ?
I can turn them on at camera settings but then when I'm out of settings and put into reverse the camera comes on but not the lines.

I set the dimmer to off a few days ago, and then at night it was WAY too bright and ended up changing it back to auto while waiting at a stop light. Since doing that it hasn't flipped rapidly between day/night colors in android, but also wasn't changing to night colors at night all the time.

I rebooted the phone, uninstalled the day/night helper, and took android auto out of developer mode. So far this morning it was day colors with no issue and tonight it was night colors.

Wonder if just changing the dimmer settings reset something, or its just the crappy android auto software got updated...

Slightly off topic, but had anyone considered the i207? I haven't been able to find any reviews or installations for that unit. I'm not sure I want/need a 9" unit that requires the dash to be cut. It appears to be almost identical to the i209 w/o waterproofing and 9" display. Any input/thoughts?

Hi burnhart, I have one of these on order as well. Did you retain your compass in the EVIC display?

So Alpine is saying it doesnít retain the compass. Can someone with the i209 or x209 please confirm if the compass is retained or not?

If you buy it from Pacific Stereo using the save30 code it wonít be anywhere near $3k. My i209 was $1,400. Iíll end up paying another couple hundred for a backup camera. $70 for the Sirius tuner from crutchfield. All in Iíll be under $2k...

i209 and it retained compass and radio station frequency. I went from a 130 unit though so the compass is in some box behind the dash that was separate from the OEM head unit, had to zip tie it into place.

Cool. Iím coming from the 430n. I reached out to Alpine and apparently their in house Jeep retained the compass as well, itís a 2017, coming from a 430n.

Got mine today. The silver/grey trim doesnít match the Jeep interior at all.
