Axle shaft u-joint (cap issue)

I have a 2008 wrangler that I bought used. I assume the u joints in the axle have never been changed judging by how rusted everything was. Removing the caps was exhausting...now I have a bigger issue.

I got the 2 caps in fine on the yoke that attaches to the wheel bearing. I cannot for the life of me get a cap to go on either end of the axle yoke. Did I mess up the yoke using a press? I have tried using the hammer method and a press to get these 2 caps on, doing the caps at the same time, doing them separately, made sure no bearings were falling into the cap, but nothing is working. Anyone have any ideas?

Only thing I'd suggest is checking that the caps will fit the yoke by themselves just to rule out a trashed yoke/wrong size cap.
Beyond that a liberal amount of stiff grease helps keep the bearings in place.

For anyone who runs into the same issue, I had to use grease and some force from a hammer & socket on top of the cap. It took longer than it should have.

Sounds like you got it right then, I've thought the same every time.
