Axle Swap Check Engine Light Limp In Mode

Hey all,

I have a 2015 Wrangler JK Sport (automatic)
I found complete axles from a 2014 Rubicon, which has Yukon 5.13 Gears
I did the swap (front and rear assemblies), and used my AEV ProCal to reset the gear ratio.
I didn't drive far or fast (less than 30mph/less than 2 miles), now the Check Engine Light and ABS Lights are on. Steering wheel is straight and abs plugs appear to be secure. It appears to be in Limp In Mode (can not go beyond 20mph).
I tried the code sequence with the ignition, but it doesn't seem to work on newer models. *EDIT: I did get the key sequence to work, but no code appeared*.
I also disconnected the negative battery terminal for 45 minutes.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try defaulting the procal. Then try changing the gear ratio again.

I'm not sure all codes show up that way.
I read somewhere the abs codes might not without the proper tool.

I'd start by going through the abs sensor wires to make sure they aren't nicked or pinched.

You said you swapped the axles in. Did they have the sensors installed or did you use your old ones? If you know yours are good, try putting yours in to make sure that it's not a faulty sensor.

Those would be my first steps. Let us know how it goes.

IIRC, an ABS issue will trigger just the ABS light, not the check engine. My money is on the gear ratio not getting set by the ProCal for some reason. Have you used this ProCal before with your vehicle?

You can borrow a code reader from auto zone also.

Would an abs issue set the vehicle into limp mode? That would trigger a check engine light, no? Just working on past cars, not Jeep experiences.

I have a 1990 Jeep Wrangler with a 4 cylinder my u-bolts are digging into my rear axle almost cutting the axle and half. Is there any other axle swaps like out of a Cherokee that I can use on my Wrangler please somebody help me find the right axle I could really use some good advice

Not unless you have fab skills and can weld. You should be able to find a dana 35 for free on craigslist. I've thrown away at least two over the years.

As mentioned before, set to default and redo the program. I had one dip switch not seated correctly and it put me into limp mode.

From the 2x times that I had speed sensor wiring issues, broken wires, all it did was throw the 3 usual lights. I can only remember 2 right now, ABS/ESP and disabled the cruise control.

The OBD reader has to be ABS enabled. There are 3 type and more in $$ as it goes up.
1)Plain reader ~$80
2)Plain + ABS ~$140
3)Plain+ABS+SRS ~$200

I have #2, because even if anything with SRS broke, I would not be able to fix it.

On a 2012+ auto, having 1 of 4 sensors not working will not set limp mode. It will set a DTC.

Having 2 of 4 sensors not working will set limp mode.

Innova CanOBD2 code reader 3100 - Read Reviews on Innova #3100
my $10 bluetooth reader and the $5 torque pro app on my cell phone will read ABS codes, just in case anybody wants a cheaper option with 100 times the functionality.

question do the rubicon axles still have the e locker or has it been changed to a normal locker. i read somewheres that you can't use regular lockers with the automatic in the newer jk's. It puts them into limp mode when turning corners.

Did you drive the vehicle at all after the axle install but prior to reprogramming? If so, this can be the cause of the limp mode. Even if you only drove a few feet. I tried a million steps to correct it but they didn't work. I ended up taking the Jeep to the dealership and having them do a factory reset of all systems then use the procal. This corrected it.

Can I use the axles out of a Cherokee or any other junkyard available truck or Jeep that'll just swap right in

No, the only junkyard axles worth your time and money to swap into a JK are going to be either rubicon dana 44's (you arent finding those in a junkyard) or big one tons like 60's, 14 bolts, or sterlings.
