Coolant change.

On my 2008 JKU I usually drain the coolant once a year as cheap insurance for my cooling system. But, I got to thinking maybe if I just dump the overflow bottle a few times a year instead if this would it be just as good to keep the antifreeze fresh as you don't drain a JK'S radiator all the way from design. Is this just a waste? Or would pulling the lower hose and draining be more beneficial? Thanks. I was using the drain but, with the original radiator having close to 100k I don't want to take that chance anymore and have to replace for no reason.

The coolant in an 08 is good for 5 yrs. or 100,000 miles. In my opinion, either drain and refill it properly or leave it. I've drained mine by removing the bottom hose. No matter how it's done you never really get it all. I use the proper Mopar 50/50 and never had an issue with draining through the bottom hose. Removing coolant once a year I think is a bit overkill.

Yea I know that its suppose to be 5 year 100k but, to me its a little long to leave in there being you don't get it all out like you would a oil change. I use the Zerex G05 which is who makes the Mopar stuff its just cheaper and clear color instead of the rosey red. I will probably just remove the lower hose being you don't have to worry about the drain screw not sealing all the way or worse cross threading on you. I have done it in the passed with good success but, I know others who haven't been so lucky and ended up having to replace the radiator. Cool beans then.

I mean, it's just a little excessive and wasteful to be changing out the coolant every year.
