Does a replaced engine have it's own warranty?

I bought a leftover 2010 Wrangler Sport in '11 and by 30k miles, the engine was burning 2-3 quarts every 1k miles. Took me the better part of a year to prove this as Chrysler insisted that Jeeps "normally" used 1 quart every 1k miles. The dealership service department treated me very badly. I'm still under the impression that because I'm a woman who does most of her own repairs and maintenance, I don't think they believed me when I told them it was burning oil. There was a LOT of yelling (from me), a LOT of visits that I was required to prove the issue but I finally had the engine replaced in 2016.

Here's my question: Does this replacement engine have it's own powertrain warranty?

Here's the reason for my question: The darn thing started leaking oil recently. And by leaking, I mean 5 quarts in a week. I couldn't see exactly where the oil was coming from but I knew it had to be a gasket somewhere above the oil pan. I took it back to the dealership because I was out of my league with this repair. I was charged $100 for a diagnostic and told the front timing gasket and the oil pan gasket needed replaced and they gave me the almost $1,000 repair cost.

When I asked about the powertrain warranty, I was told that it was well outside the warranty from 2011 when I bought it. So once again explaining that the ENTIRE engine was replaced in 2016, there should have been some sort of warranty on the NEW engine. I was then told that the warranty for the new engine was only 3-years/100,000 miles. I had picked my Jeep up with the new engine on 4/21/16 so I missed the 3-year warranty by ~6 months.

Is this right? I can't seem to find any information for a warranty on a new engine. They told me to call Chrysler and I'm just dreading this whole process again. I don't want to keep on having issues like this every 3 years either...

I don't know the actual numbers on the warranty, but it doesn't sound out of whack to me.

I would find a reputable independent repair shop for that gasket replacement. It should be less $$ and the mechanic likely would have more pride in his work.

This could be 100% right. Different vehicle, but I had a Subaru transmission replaced under warranty and at the time, I was 7k miles away from the mileage end of powertrain warranty. I asked and they confirmed that that's all I'd get. So by that logic, if you're at 59k miles in a 60k mile warranty, unless they say otherwise, you've got a 1k warranty.

@Gadski I'd also suggest, that is now a 10 year old Jeep... Repairs are going to be needed on occasion. It's just the way it is.

Yeah, that sounds right. The warranty on dealer installed parts is usually 2 years.

I'm surprised that a gasket failure from an untouched part could leak that much that quickly. Are you sure it's not the oil filter?

I'm surprised too. I wonder if there are two oil filter gaskets, one stuck to the block from the last oil change, and one on the filter now in use. That would cause a very dynamic leak, and be the first thing I'd check.

If the new engine was replaced under warranty Then the only warranty on the new engine would be whatever was remaining on the warranty that it replaced assuming it was replaced under FCA warranty by FCA dealer. Warranted parts are only covered to the time or mileage of the original FCA warranty. Clearly spelled out in FCA warranty statement.

I won't get the chance to check the oil filter until Sunday (it's my anniversary and I'll be out of town). I've been driving my husband's 2000 Rav4 with 401k miles on it and no leaks ever... it's somewhat rusty and a bit hard on the eyes but much more reliable than my Jeep has been.
I asked to see a copy of the warranty when I went to the dealership and they didn't seem to have anything on file, hence why I was asking here (I can't locate it either).

While I am not sure about the warranty situation or the numbers, and I hope you can figure out what is going on, but it kind of does sound like a double gasket situation, maybe getting @JeepCares involved may help, especially if the dealer was supposed to reregister a new warranty on the engine its self from time of install, Jeep cares may be able to provide some insight or help as to how to rectify the issue or at least get the warranty situated correctly for you, can't make promises but it is at least worth a try....

I got a chance to take a look at the oil filter. It was due for a change anyways. I didn't find a double gasket and there wasn't any oil leaking from around it. Going to dig into it deeper with my father in law but definitely not taking it back to the dealership. But thanks for all the advice, it will get fixed regardless, just not going to give my money to the dealership lol!

Big oil leak

We went through a similar situation when I bought my wife a new Liberty in 2008. It came with that piece of junk 3.7, and went through tons of coolant. Took it to the dealer we purchased it at and they told me a gallon of coolant a month was crazy, they found no leaks. Met a fellow Harley rider who ran a dealer about an hour away and first thing he told me was GET RID OF IT! At about 15,000 miles it finally blew the radiator to bits from the pressure! Got new engine #1. New engine 1 burned so much oil it cooked the catalytic converters!New engine #2, back to loosing gallons of coolant! Got a free heater core but in came replacement engine #3! All under 30,000 miles, now the oil light came on, that RED ONE! The next day we picked it up and was told it was a bad sender, now my friend told my wife in no uncertain terms SELL IT! We sold it in 2days. Only after it was sold was I told they put 3 cans of an unnamed very thick oil treatment goo, + 3 quarts of 50wt. Harley oil. The good news is we traded it in for a 2013 JKU at the original dealer that said there were no problems...

My uncle is a mechanic and told me the minute I got my Wrangler to sell it. Especially because it's a 2010. The engine isn't the only thing wrong with it. I can't put gas in it and let the pump click off or the gas will spew out all over the place (maddening after I detail the crap out of it), it has a wiring issue in the drivers side turn signal as well. I love having a Jeep but after I get this gasket thing fixed, I'm selling it. I'm sad because I really do love my wrangler. I understand it's getting older and needs repairs but after 3 years on a new engine and needing to replace gaskets?? Its not like I run the crap out of it and beat it to hell just to see how tough it is, Chrysler just makes crap and then makes up ridiculous "standards" so they cover their butts on the crap they put out. I wanted a fun vehicle and I had fun but I'm done...
