Electrical gremlins in my 13 jku

Took my jku to the dealership for the 15k maintenance check. They changed the oil and rotated the tires. A couple of days later, my electricals started acting up. Every time I hit little bump, the radio will dim and the song playing will go quiet (but continue playing). If I hit a big bump, the radio display will freeze and restart. Occasionally, the lights in the cluster will come on and turn off. Only after I hit a big bump, will the CEL come on and stay on. After a couple of starts, the CEL will go off. I have tried checking the code after the CEL, but it never displays an error code.

I returned to the dealership, and they can't find anything wrong with it. My best guess is a bad ground somewhere.

I have a pretty stock jku. I only have a different front bumper and a winch.
I am going to check the ground wire on the winch and the relocated vacuum pump to make sure the dealership didn't do anything to screw up the wiring.

So, any other thoughts? I am going off-road next weekend and I need to get this fixed. Thanks!

There are several ground in the engine compartment; but the most important is having a good connection on the battery terminal. Several members on the forum (myself included) have found the battery ground terminal not seated properly on the post causing an intermittent connection problem.

I work at a jeep dealer, if i could get the last 8 digits of your vin i may be able to help out. i will also need to know which radio is currently installed, there is a 3 letter code on the lower corner of the front panel of the radio. i can look up all applicable tech bulletins to see what we can figure out.

+1 on electrical issues being tied to bad connections or charging / batteries. I have had strange electrical issues when having grounds being loose, batteries about to die and charging system failures. Make you check the easy stuff before spending money on complex electrical chasing or radios.

Good luck.

If it's a rubicon check the swaybar connector. This has caused others problems like this.

also check the connection to the TIPM. I hear the power connector can get loose and cause all sorts of odd issues.

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions - it was a bad battery terminal connection. At least it wasn't anything major!
