Exhaust Leak Fixed

The previous owner of my Jeep had put a full aftermarket exhaust system on, headers, cats, all new pipes, muffler, etc. Unfortunately it was not well installed. It was not hanging correctly, almost missing a couple of the hangers completely, and sitting on the frame right after the cats, this resulted in some nasty clanking from under the car. Worse, there was a clearly audible leak coming from the front section somewhere - hard to find where because the headers were wrapped in heat-shield.

I took her into a local muffler specialist who lay on the ground under the Jeep, looked for a few mins and then told me it would take him at least a full day to re-bend and weld the exhaust, and even then he didn't know if he'd find the leak.

So I took it to another shop (American Muffler and Radiator in Thousand Oaks, CA) where the owner put her up on a lift and gave her a pretty thorough inspection before pointing out that there was a missing nut on the manifold that was probably the cause of the leak, and quoted me $100 to turn the exhaust properly, get it on the hangers right, and tack weld the joints in the new position. Done and done. $100 bucks later and it's like a completely different Jeep. The sound is awesome. I hadn't realized how much noise the leak was making, now I have this throaty burble, fabulous. Better yet, the performance seems much better, any hesitation is gone, and she's pulling quite a bit stronger.

Probably the best $100 I've ever spent. Also great to experience really good, honest customer service.

Ian

What brand name exhaust system do you have? Does it have dual Outlets? I'm looking for a muffler back with the Dual outlet look but I don't want anything loud.Who do you think makes the quietest Muffler that has the Dual Outlets?

I honestly don't know. It's completed covered in surface rust and there don't seem to be any embossed brand markings. It might be a completely custom fabricated job from what I can tell. It's single outlet, with a wider bore, and quite significantly larger muffler than stock.

It's barely any louder than stock, just a bit deeper and throatier.
