Exhaust Question...

I was thinking about changing the exhaust on my 15. I got the Flowmaster cat back with the Super HP-2 and not happy with the sound at all. I came across an axle back on ebay that from the sound clip sounds pretty good and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it?

And yes, I know nothing in the world is going to make it sound like a V8. Just looking for something with a deeper tone to it.

Thanks!

Just something to add. The seller said it's comparable to a Gibson but a little quieter?

You will never find one of these 3.6 that sounds good in my opinion.

Most important factor is the size of the can. The bigger the can quieter and less chance of drone.

I put the Magnaflow Off-road Pro Series on mine. It is a lil on the loud side but I like it. Plus it dumps right before the axle so no muffler to worry about hangin in the back!

I have an 09, so different engine than yours. But I had the gibson muffler on mine, not catback, the sound was decent. But just recently put the same system on as lil gremlin, magnaflow offroad series, I like it a lot better. And like the placement of it as well.

So still haven't made a decision. Going between the Gibson, mbrp & magnaflow. Seems everyone has their own opinion to each. And listening to sound clips on YouTube is almost impossible to figure out which is a deeper sound.

I messed around with several configurations on my exhaust. In the end, I've decided that the stock resonator is absolutely needed unless you want a loud ricer sound.

I'm currently running stock exhaust including OEM resonator, and a Thrush 2 chamber muffler (looks just like a flowmaster 40) in the stock location. It's just a little louder than stock, and it sounds great . it's a very deep sound at idle and up to 1400 rpm. Above that, it gets quieter.

I agree with keeping a resonator in the system. I am a fan of the aFe high tuck system. For me it's more about function than sound.

Check out Thermal R&D Exhaust. Just put this on my daughters 07 Jk. Great sound, doesn't sound like a rice rocket but more of European sports car. No drone whatsoever, even at 70-80 mph

Question...besides looks and a deeper growl, is there any exhaust system that will help increase hp/performance? Would a cat back or axle back help at all or do you have to start at the headers and go all the way back? I am looking for something to first increase hp/performance and then second to look good.

Truthfully, the only thing that's going to make a noticeable difference is 1) supercharger or 2) gears. I personally feel the reason people think exhaust makes the car faster is the noise. Exhaust is 80% about the sound...lol Can you really feel a 5HP difference?

And on another note, I think the key to limiting the "ricer" sound may just be keeping the resonator in. I ordered the OPS Armor, so we'll see how it sounds. Looks like they sold a bunch at Jeep Beach this week.

When I was looking for an exhaust, I searched high and low on the internet for sound clips of multiple systems out there...
read up on the systems that interested me the most, and ended up with the
DB Corsa axle back system!
Loved it from day 1, and it sounds even better today!
Been around 1 year since the installation, no drone, and sounds AWESOME!
the only time, I really hear it is when i get on it!
having a six speed transmission makes the tone even more enjoyable!
No, it doesn't give you a noticeable horse power gain, or improved gas mileage
But, It looks Great, and sounds even better!
hope this helps!
good luck!
