For those with the Carobotor J Pro dash

I’m having an issue where my dash WILL NOT turn off, Ever, unless I lock the doors. I’ve used the custom configuration features in both the dash itself and now using the JScan tool to set the ECU communication and dash turn off feature for 45 seconds, 3 minutes, 5 minutes and it absolutely doesn’t matter. The dash remains on and will drain the battery dead if I forget to lock the Jeep which I often do when it’s parked in the garage.

Is there something I’m missing? When I turn the Jeep off and close all the doors I’ll get the prompt in the attached picture until I lock the Jeep. I’ve complained to Carobotor so many times they sent me out a new dash and didn’t even bother having me send them the old one back.. this is driving me crazy.

According to Carobotor once the dash is installed it is locked to that vehicle. I'm assuming this is somehow similar to the AEV Procal. If someone can figure out how to unlock the dash I'd be happy to sell it...

I have looked at these dashes and thought they looked cool. Since you are local I might have to swing by and look at in person.

What happens if you swap the dash back to stock? This would help rule out the new dash being the issue, or somehow wires got crossed...

Sounds more like a software issue with the display. The dash always has power because you can see the blinking security light when you lock it. They are reading the wrong information to determine when to shut it off. If they don't fix it, you could put an inline relay to the power supply on the display and use the trigger from the 12V to the radio.

I've switched the dash back to stock and the stock dash works as it originally did - which is to say it shuts down when I turn off the jeep and causes no concerns.

I like the way you're thinking, unfortunately I don't know that I could tackle this myself. I wouldn't know what wire(s) in the dash to connect to the radio.

It's hard for me to say what's causing the issue. I believe it to be a software issue but it doesn't seem to be happening to anyone else I know of that has the dash. Both units stay on in my Jeep. like several other people i know with the dash, they too have the Alpine restyle head unit which leads me to believe it's not associated with that. otherwise, the only other electrical modifications I've done all run through my Spod. i have no clue what could be the root cause of the issue.

And it's bizarre to me that the Jpro dash shuts down completely only when i lock the doors after turning the jeep off. If i don't lock the doors it stays on... what could locking the doors do to shut down the dash?

I would if possible disconnect the Spod (at the battery terminals should suffice) and IF possible disconnect the radio (at the after market harness to isolate any possibility of the radio harness being crossed)

I had a similar issue where my 2004 Mustang running lights stayed on because the illumination wire was connected to my after market radio that was installed and after cutting and terminating the illumination wire the issue was resolved and I suspect something similar could be going on here. I understand it may be a bit more involved to disconnect the restyle kit from Alpine but removing any possible aftermarket issue except your dash is the best way to try and determine where the issue lies, then if needed get further assistance from the dash manufacture.

If you were closer I would be more then happy to offer what assistance I could to help you out.

also we wouldn't happen to have a link to this new dash would we?

I appreciate you offering to help! I'll dig back in this weekend and disconnect the SPOD and Radio to see what that does.

in the meantime, here's a link to the dash:

https://www.carobotor.ca/product/jpro/

Really not a lot of information on the site or anywhere else in general.

Thanks, I know this may be an odd thing to ask but when you ordered the dash did you go through and set the correct options?

what type of jeet, trans and motor do you have? (2door or 4 door? trim level? manual or auto? engine is assumed but do you have a NA or turbo engine?)

another thing that I can think of (doubt this but still anything is possible) is that if you were sent a dash for the wrong type of Jeep configuration IE a 4 door dash with a 2 door jeep, turbo engine for a non turbo jeep, I know it seems odd but im just thinking from the IT persons point of view
