Gear Shift Disconnect

I own a 2010 Wrangler Sport and yesterday morning when I got in my jeep to go to work my jeep would not shift into gear. It just stayed in park. I drove my friends truck up to the local dealership to ask about this and the service tech there said that it could be the gear shift connect. So long story short there is a lever on the underside of the jeep that I had to manually push over into drive in order to get my jeep up to the dealership. They said it had just come loose and I hadn't even been doing any offroading. Has this ever affected anyone offroading, because it seems like something that could get caught while going over brush. Just wondering if anybody had any input on the subject, Thanks.
