Getting CEL error codes

So my 16 JKU has the check engine light on. I've found how to turn the key three times to get the code off the dash, but all I get is the word "done". Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Are you getting a -------- before "done"?

Can you post a video of the sequence?

Yes, I get the "------" as the various indicator lights go off, followed by "d0ne". Then I get my odometer reading. All of the videos I've seen show automatic transmissions and ours is a manual; I don't suppose that matters, but throwing that out there just in case.

I'll try to get a video and post it tonight (it's my wife's daily driver).

That method doesn't always work. It should be covered by the warranty, so take it in and let the dealer check it, or take it somewhere that will read the code for free.

That's the ultimate plan, but I can't take it anywhere until Saturday and was just curious as to what the code was and if it was something that was going to cause issues if not resolved sooner.

Thanks everyone for the help. Happy New Year!

You might check your Owners' Manual. For the 2015, a steady light can be caused by several things, including a loose or bad gas cap and bad gas, but it should be okay to drive. If the light starts flashing, then you got problems, and it needs to checked immediately.

Thanks for that. I knew the thing about the steady light vs flashing so I was not terribly concerned. We took it to the dealer yesterday and it turned out to be an evaporative system error that had already been cleared but the light stayed on. Why it stays on after the system clears it is beyond me.
