Grinding cold start?

As cooler weather begins, I notice there is a dry grinding start to my 2010 JK. Only happens in cold weather, and it grinds worse as it gets colder and only upon start up.

Ive tried the more expensive spill-back valve on the oil filter, but it didn't work. should i change the weight of the oil from 5w20 to something different?

Can this damage the 100k mile engine long term? doesn't sound good, even if it's only for 1-2 seconds.

Grinding cold start?

Yes change to 5W30 Amsoil XL. Worked for our Jeeps. Ours started the cold weather clack around 160,000 Klm .. Mine has almost 300,000klm now and start up is quiet.

My 2010 does this. I'm pretty sure it's the starter not disengaging. It only does it when it's colder.
