Help!

08 Wrangler Sahara

So i have been having some problems. Turn key - nothing, get out wiggle battery cable, get in & try again starts no issue, sometimes takes a couple of tries but is an occasional intermittent problem.
I was running an errand and was out of the car for at least 2 hrs when I tried to start her, she was turning over but not catching. Also when the key was turned to the start car position it was sticking and i had to turn it back to the left. When I started smelling burnt plastic (?) smell I stopped trying to start her. Had her towed home
Got a recommendation for a local repair shop to get a diagnostic done and had her towed there. First thing I heard from them was that my engine was seized and they wanted 7000 to replace my motor. Or they would be happy to buy her....
I towed her home and there is no burnt oil or scorched smell. Someone told me there is a sensor in the steering column (?) that could cause an issue that will cause the motor to seize to prevent damage.
Any ideas? Thoughts? I can't afford the 7000 they want to replace my engine and I really got the impression they thought they had a sucker on the line to get me to sell my Jeep for next to nothing.

Dealers would rather replace than repair so I'm not surprised. Given that you had a problem with the ignition switch, I'd start there.

Did it throw any error codes? You might ask this in the JK Tech or JK General forums also.

I have had to replace ignition lock cylinders on two GM vehicles (well I did the one that didn't have any airbags in the wheel, dealer did the other).

Good luck with it.

Good idea, thread moved to JK Tech

In addition, you shouldn't be able to "wiggle" the battery cable. Make sure the terminal is seated all the way down on the post.
  • Loosen the terminal
  • Tap the terminal down on the post all the way to the bottom. I like to use a large socket and rubber mallet (gently)
  • Tighten terminal

Good luck!!
