Help me update Uconnect on my 2014 JKU

I’ve watched videos and read the documentation.
I have the update all ready to go on a USB stick..

My issue is that it won’t recognize the voice command of “setup software update”

Here’s my radio:

It only will recognize the basic commands as in this photo:

Any help or suggestions?
Thanks

You are not alone. I am also unable to get my 2015 to recognize the voice command to setup software update. I would like to know the trick to making this work too.

That’s at least good to know.

Anyone else experience this?

Called Uconnect...they are absolutely useless with zero help. Wasted my time walking through everything I already tried just to tell me take it to the dealer.

I had no issues updating the firmware, only the annoying Uconnect.
Firmware was a breeze.

Wasn't aware you could update a 730 from a USB stick. I've updated my '14 twice but from a disc. The first disc updates the firmware and the second the NAV. Very simple procedure and no voice commands used.

I updated the firmware a few days ago from a USB stick with no issues.
Did you update the Uconnect from a CD or DVD?
The disc just had the uconnect.upn file on it?

I used the 2 disc set that comes from Uconnect. As I said, the first updates the firmware the second updates the NAV. You have to have the latest firmware installed in order to update the NAV. BTW the latest NAV update is excellent.

Cool, thanks. I’ll try to get that disc set.

Ted if you're trying to update from MyGig good luck. I don't know of anyone who has had any luck there. That system seems to be susceptible to too many variations in both the software and hardware used to make the upgrade. Go to Uconnect and enter your VIN and bite the bullet on the cost of the discs and you'll likely be money and time ahead. One guy here bricked his head unit trying to update the cheap way but was lucky enough to find someone who could bring the thing back to life for $250. It's just simpler to buy the discs.

I did use mygig for the firmware update to the radio itself and it was absolutely perfect. No issues whatsoever and I did it from a 32 gig usb stick.

Now, BEFORE I even did the firmware update, I tried the Uconnect update (small file uconnect.upn) on a usb stick and it did not work. The radio just didn’t recognize it and I tried several different usb sticks. It didn’t work before the firmware update or after.

The voice command “setup software update” just doesn’t get recognized (as the other user also wrote above)

I probably will pay the $150 for the disks but uconnect told me on the phone that everything I was trying to do was correct and they were stumped...
I just don’t understand why it won’t recognize the damn file?

I should add that the Uconnect update I’m trying to do is exactly from Uconnect’s website as per their instructions.
Extracted to a usb stick, center console port, etc...
Just doesn’t work.

Understood. The problem is I know of a few who have tried to go that way and none that have had any luck. I just hope things haven't been corrupted enough that the discs will not work either.

BTW the VR on these things suck which isn't going to help your situation. To this day I can say something like call John Doe and the response may be something like calling central proctology. I can relearn the thing and it will work for a time then go stupid again. I have been very pleased with this last NAV update though despite the other faults. I also use an iPhone and Uconnect and Apple don't play well together.

Gotcha, yes the recognition is less than stellar. I also have an iPhone.
I’m still at a loss why a simple file on a usb stick won’t work. They told me to call them back when I’m actually in my Jeep and they’ll try to troubleshoot it.
I wonder if I’m prepared to waste another 40 minutes or more.

I can totally see the maps being worth the price.
I just wanted to update the uconnect part to see if there was any added benefit.

I just don't want to steer you down a blind path by suggesting the disc updates only to find out there may be other issues. It's just that me and some others have had good luck going this route but we did it this way from jump street. Let me know how things work out. When others face similar problems maybe we can save them some trouble.

If you have a 730n the latest updates were offered not long before Christmas. If you have something else you would just have to punch in your VIN to check.

Mine’s a 2014 and there is a Uconnect update available after punching in my VIN on their website.

The UConnect 130 is in serious need of a firmware update. Its the one thing on my 2018 JK I hate fighting with. Android 8.1 will not pass thru any GPS google map instructions to the speakers in the Jeep. I either have to listen to the voice from my phone or another blu tooth speaker.

The voice recognition command system is like dealing with a hearing impaired person in which English is a second language.

I went around and around with this issue in my '14 JKU with the 730n.
I printed off the instructions and downloaded the file to a USB, then when it didn't work I was told it had to be a certain brand of super special USB which I ordered ($19 for 16g Kingman stick). My prompts looked exactly like yours and nothing worked.
After several emails and phone calls and numerous failed attempts, the advice was "take it to the dealer"
I gave up and said screw it.
Now I have a really nice stainless steel USB stick on my key ring. The whole effort and experience was ridiculous. Every contact gave me different advice and instructions. The only consistancy was that it was always useless. Every time I told them that I couldn't get the prompt to update system setup. They never could seem to get that.
I have some suggestions for a name change for JeepCares

Called Uconnect again just for the hell of it and they walked me through the entire procedure (another 45 minutes of wasted time) and finally told me to take it to a dealer.

Called 3 local dealers and all of them were booked for almost a month AND had a piss poor attitude on top of that.

Jeepcares- any help?
