Help needed getting new y-pipe to fit the tail pipe

After a pretty epic battle I was able to remove my old y-pipe. Now, unfortunate, I cannot get the new y-pipe to slide into the tail pipe properly. I can only get about 3/4” into the pipe. I think the problem is that the clamp used to hold the old one in place was torqued down so tight that it put a crimp in the pipe. A bit hard to see in the photos below, but it very noticeable with fingers.

Any suggestions on how to get to fit? Can I heat the tail pipe enough to get it to expand? Is there a tool I can use to stretch it? Any help will be gratefully received.

Ian

You should be able to go to Autozone or a similar auto parts store and "borrow" a pipe expander.

Thanks, I didn't know such a thing existed. My local O'Reilly has one to rent in the size I need. I'll pick it up tomorrow. Wish me luck...:-)

Thanks,

Ian
