Hood won't open

Hi everyone.
Off to a pub for Sunday lunch. Thought before we went I would check oil and washer fluid - I can't open the hood! It just doesn't pop up enough for me to get my fingers under to pull the latch. Has anybody else come across this? This JK is fairly new to me, can't find any extra security or hood lock anywhere, only popped the hood last week - all was fine. Is possible for the centre latch to snag on something? If you've got any ideas I would be more than grateful.Cheers.

If you released both side latches you should be able to lift it enough to reach the center latch.

Stubbornly refuses to pop up any more than a few millimetres . Hoping my wife's long slender fingers can get in there! But honest, finding it difficult to get my head around at the moment. Think I'll have a couple of pints and then come back and have another go.

Drink a few pints and come back with a pry bar, that'll learn it.

Wow. A problem that duct tape and zip ties unlikely to fix. Stumped. How about wire coat hanger to open and eyeball the problem?

Ok back from pub. 2 pints of Kentish 'Spitfire Ale' ( if you've been to the UK you'll know) wire coat hanger - no way, long slender fingers - nah. Big screwdriver still joy.
I'm bloody well stumped.

Did your Mopar hood lock get stuck? I know that the Wranglers shipped to England have them pre-installed at the factory. It is at the top of the center slot of the grille and is protected by a rubber cover. Take a close look.

I did not know that! I'll have a good look at that in the week. FYI the jeep has an aftermarket grill on it , has 4 slots instead of 7. Certainly not everyones cup of tea i'll admit, but looks ok i think. Centre slot has some kind of small plate at the top? I wonder if its under there? Anyway, thanks for that. Further investigation required.

I've seen the 4 slot grille on Chelsea Truck Company Jeeps. There is a piece at the top center of the grille that comes out to give access to the factory lock. Pull out the plug, insert the ignition key, and turn anti-clockwise to unlock. You can lock it with the hood open and take the key out. The hood will latch locked.

That's exactly the one I have! , thanks everyone seems like problem solved, but fancy hiding a lock behind that flap and the dealer not telling me! Had a TJ before so wasn't looking for any lock when I tried to open it. Another lesson learned, at what do age do you have to be to stop learning lessons? Cheers Guys.

Nice shots. Interesting that a screwdriver (albeit a BFO one) defeated the lock. I was thinking it's a good option (if you know it's there) given how easy the wrangler hood is to pop, except that you got past it relatively easily! Sounded hard if it was just stuck, but pretty rubbish if it was meant to secure it. What do you think?

If only I had waited for Rick92f to post I wouldn't have taken the BFO screwie to it! Rick knew exactly what the problem was. Afraid the screwie defeated the lock very easily, bonnet lifted just enough to get it under, quick bit of pressure and It popped. Reading the posts on here I assume many here would not like the 4 slot grill but I think it kind of works. You'd be surprised the attention the Jeep gets over here, not many around, things like 'is it military' seems that's a common thought. Every comment we've had though has been complimentary. And the diesel is much more economic than the TJ I had.
