How is transfer case breather hose attached to firewall?

I'm getting ready to replace my transfer case breather hose with an new/longer hose so that I can run it to the top of the firewall.

As it stands, the current breather cap is about halfway down the firewall, sort of behind and to the left of the transmission dipstick.

I've read that some people just left the top part of the hose in place and just cut most of it off when running a new line.

Me being me, I'd prefer to remove the old line. The issue is that it's so far down the firewall, I can't really tell how it's mounted. I don't want to just tug on it from below and rip something out by accident if it happens to be anchored to another needed component.

Any know? Worse case I'll just leave the old one and cut most of it off but would like to get it removed if at all possible.

I came across your post doing a search and you asked the same question I have. What is the transfer case breather attached to? Did you figure this out?

The TC breather hose on my 2010 (3.8) is lower on the firewall than it appears in some of the photos I've seen, and lower than I'm comfortable with. The problem is while I can see it, there is no way to reach it from the engine compartment so I'll probably drop a new hose and then attach it to the existing hose from below, somewhere around the transmission. I'd also prefer to remove the existing hose but I can't figure out what it's attached to or what would happen if it's yanked from below. Any ideas?

Also, I don't think I can reach the existing cap if I can't remove the old hose, so is there a place to buy these or something similar?

I read your posts but I have not done this mod yet but here is a write up on extending the breather tube. It mainly discusses the rear but mentions the front axle & transfer case tubes. You may have already read it but I hope it helps some.

Yeah, this is a great write-up and it is what I used when I extended my front and rear axle breathers. I extended the axles quite a while ago, but never got around to doing the transfer case or transmission. I had the day off so I decided to see what it would entail.

I guess I'll leave the existing hose in place and run a new hose like others mentioned in that thread, now I just need to figure out what do to about the cap. I have everything else to finish this, if I can just find a way to pry the old cap off and reuse it or buy a new one somewhere. It's so far down the firewall, I don't see any easy way to reach it.
