I want a HEMI!!!!

Been driving a rental the last few days and its a 18" RAM Big Horn Crew cab with a 5.7L HEMI in it. This thin moves easy, is pretty damn fast in a big truck and has a nice little growl. Drives better than my JKY for sure overall.

Hate the nanny assist though. This thing just braked hard and scared me as I was backing up and God for bid the rear tires hit the curb parking, LOL. Was just trying to back in to fit in the space.

Yeah, a HEMI in my JKU is a pipe dream at this point but wish t was an option even on the new JLs.

Also sweet option. But OCD will be hard with a Chevy in a FCA, LOL.

AEV has been doing Hemi conversions for years along with a few other shops. Merely a matter of how deep your pockets are and/or wrenching skills are.

Exactly. I saw on a video about the work they did to get the tow capacity up for Gladiator's 3.6 and wondered why they didn't just use the 5.7 Hemi.

The V8 rumble definitely beats the hideous sound of Pentastar.

But the current Hemi comes with some issues, that may make you wish you kept Pentastar:
On the Hemi you need to remove the cylinder head in order to change the valve lifters, which (if used with 5W20 'miraculously') fail on just like on Pentastar.
Also on the Hemi the Solenoid Controlled 2-Stage Oil Pump is mounted on the crakshaft, which makes it a whole lot harder to change than the same type pump of the Pentastar.

Pentastar is one of THE best among current engines of it's class (V6).
Yes, the oil cooler assembly is it's achilles heel, but that is so easy to change, even a caveman can do it (regardless of how many softies are crying about it).

Yeah, get all that. But the Big Horn is soo smooth and quick acceleration. Less than 400HP too.

The Hemi takes up too much space so it won’t pass crash standards...

Jeep North America boss Tim Kuniskis:

“Everybody always asks me that question: it fits. You know that. It fits like a glove," he explained. "But the problem is that it fits like a glove and there is no air space around the engine and the whole external space of the vehicle so you have no crush space; you have nothing that can be used to absorb energy in a crash."

I work with a guy that recently bought a Trackhawk, I do not see very much space around that motor. I can't imagine a Wrangler with a Hemi could have much less room than the Hellcat motor in a Grand Cherokee. The airspace must be measured in inches or fractions of inches.

I also want a Hemi. Problem is that I tend to keep my Jeeps for less than five years. What is the exit strategy on a Hemi JK? Do you realistically get ANY of the conversion costs back? Or is it like other mods, adding little value to the selling price when you get rid of it

I had a 2011 Power Wagon with the 5.7L Hemi and 4.56 gears.
Boy howdy.
But I got better than 11 mpg a sum-total of 1 time.
And the TIPM failed so many times that people thought my loaner was my new truck.

...sigh. I still miss it when I tow my trailer.

Boy howdy.

I had the same year and truck. That thing drove like a dream. Fast and smooth. Until it developed death wobble at just over 30,000 miles. Really pissed me off because I absolutely loved that truck. Sold it.

On another note, I thought I read, watched somewhere or possibly dreamed that the 3.6 out accelerates a 1500 with the hemi.

Why a hemi?

Not a Hemi hater here at all but I have a JK with LS3 in it and it is by far a better conversion than the Hemi. I looked at both swaps and the LS3 has more hp, is lighter, gets better mileage, is easier to install, and with a 6L80 transmission will push a JK faster than one should ever be driven. Frankly, if God had a converted JK, it would have an LS engine in it Call Jon @ RPM Extreme and have him tell you why the LS conversion is the right choice.

i feel you my friend. We have a Ram 2500 with a Cummins. I just bought a Durango RT with the Hemi. First time I drove the Durango I said "the Pentastar is fine." Second visit to the dealer the guy smartly put me in a RT. And that was that. No more anemic Pentastar. Take my money. I wouldn't pay $65K for a Dodge or a Durango so I was able to resist the SRT. But it was a struggle.
I am not interested in another Wrangler. Same for the Gladiator. My Ram 2500 is spectacular. Never thought I'd say this but I am a Ram convert (from a Ford truck girl)- if I need a baby truck it'll be the 1500. However....if Jeep ever finds a way to get a (factory) Hemi in either vehicle.....take my money.

I really want to do a L86 swap, but it is hard to justify spending 20ish on it. I would need to have a nice work year to spring for it.

Love my Durango R/T. Pulls the boat way better than my old Tahoe. Seems like it is packed in the engine compartment pretty tightly but I am no automotive engineer.

Still stock 3.21s. Going 4.10 or 4.56 next month or so.

Don't get 4.10s. Get 4.56s for sure. I've been on a thousand gear threads if I've been on one....4.56s are 100% a safe bet. The only time you see "regret" with 4.56s is people that wish they'd gone 4.88s. Why spend all that money to get a stock gear ratio? (4.10s).
Either way you will be ecstatic over the improvement.
Edit: I see you have 35s. Don't get 4.10s. It's still sloggy with 4.10s and 35s. (Go drive a Rubi on 4.10s at a dealer.)

V8 would be cool, but I have to say that the 3.6 in a Challenger that I rented felt really fast as well. I was honestly fooled by it and thought it was a V8 until I looked under the hood.

Exhaust note would be a dead giveaway between a 6 and 8.

Yeah but also have talk to some locals who regard and do a bit of highway driving. many had both gearing and said 4.10 is fine for us here in flat Florida and better on the highway. Then again pricing is the same so not sure. Been in a Rubi but stock tires and it felt great. But mine felt fine too on stock tires.

Highway driving will be little to no difference. MPG will be little to no difference. Price is the same. Get the better performance gear ratio. You'll get extra oomph back for your 35s. It's like saying "no, I'll take the 12 oz. steak instead of the 16 oz. for the same money". "No no...give me the 12 oz beer instead of the pint. I'd rather not enjoy myself too much." Why go with "fine?"

The whole "highway driving" thing drives me batty. Somewhere in the universe someone decided 2500-3000 RPMs was the death knell. A Jeep is not, nor will it ever be, a Honda or a speed racer. 2700 RPMs at 75 MPH will not blow up the Pentastar. It won't sound like a shrieking banshee and you'll be able to hear just fine.
I am sorry. I will step off my soapbox. I get a little carried away about gear ratios. Do what ya' like. It's all just opinions and you know what they say.
Whatever you do- dump the 3.21s

And wait a minute... aren't you the one pining for a HEMI and better performance?
