LED Fog Light Fix

Here is a post that gives a solution I came up with to solve the LED Fog Lights that are installed in a JK to take the place of the Halogen Bulb Fog Lights. After installation the LED Lights have an erratic blink or strobe effect. There are suggestions of capacitors and or resistors. Some work for a while and then go out. If a resistor with a capacitor is used, the resistor is just putting a load on the light circuit and will generate heat.
I came up with what is listed below and it has worked for over three months with perfect results. The heart of the solution is a small voltage regulator package. I have not dissected the regulator but, it has got to be just a internal 12 volt regulator IC with a filter capacitor after the regulator IC.

First, I ordered two regulators of Ebay. $21 total for two.

Then I ordered a set of JK Fog Light 18" extension cables off Ebay. $15

Next take the extension cable and cut as shown and wire in the regulator. Be sure to measure for positive and negative polarity on the extension cable. Mine was the black wire positive and red negative.

Here is one of the finished modules ready to install. It will be plug and play at the Jeep. Just Ty-wrap the cables up and secure the modules.

Hope this helps someone.

Where did you end up mounting the regulators?

There is a frame cross brace just behind the bumper. The top side of the cross brace is perfect to hold the regulators. But, the regulators are too wide to go inside the cross brace as purchased. I milled one side of the heat sink and mounting hole as shown. A hack saw or grinder will work fine also.

Then the regulator will fit inside the cross brace. I drilled and tapped a 1/4 inch hole. Then used a 1/4 X 1/2 long bolt with a washer and some lock tight.
