My hardtop is blistering/bubbling

My hardtop is bubbling/blistering.
I am sure FCA wonít warranty this under a regular or extended warranty.
Now what? Assume I need to have it fixed and repainted.

@JeepCares , is this how we keep customers?

Pop the bubbles. Clean the edges. Use hard top repair paint.

I’ve got three of those blisters also. I’ll ask about them when I get the air bag recall done.

UPDATE:

Went to dealer to have t checked out and the blisters came back. Looks like its the paint/coating on the top and NOT the actual structure. No its covered under Basic Warranty but not the Extended MOPAR Warranty. I am out of warranty by 4K and was told paint is covered under warranty. Yet my hinge issues was not under basic the dealer told me last year.

I wish I remembered last year about the blisters. They came and went so fast, I forgot about them and the dealer would have replaced my top.
Look like I am screwed on the hinge issues too.

Guess will move forward with getting the top Line-X.

It's not that big of a deal. I posted the solution in the 13th.

Pop the bubbles, clean it up, and use the hard top repair paint.

There is zero chance I'd be paying $500 to Line X a hard top because of a few extremely minor paint bubbles.

Yes and I have I have the hardtop paint. Not an exact match and like any touch up paint, it never looks the same. I have the spray and brush.
Well my top has many nicks, scratches and chips from removing the top, storing the top and trees, etc. so its a little beat up and $700 in linex and itís durable and looks new.

Rake it against a few trees, blow out a window and gouge the crap out of it on the trail and have someone close the garage door when your backing out.. little things like this wonít matter to you.

UPDATE #2

Jeep Care called back and explained said they would offer to pay half the cost for a new top.
That's a very nice offer but not worth it to me. $1700 out of pocket and then not sure how or if my MOPAR headliners can be reused. Rather just linex it, as the new one will chip and scratch up easy again.

Curious, did they say they'd cut you a check or just discount the top?

If it makes you feel any better, I have a body-color painted hardtop and it has some little black spots where the paint chipped off. So do the fenders! I wonder if it bubbled the same way.

Funny, our plain black top shows white under scratches and chips. I wonder if the color-matched tops are just painted over the plain black ones?

I got the same response from the dealer here. Not covered. The blisters seem to come and go with the heat of the day. if they get out of hand Iíll figure out how to patch and touch up after the weather changes.

What do they do, "Jimmy this yahoo wants a new top for a few heat blisters."

"Tell him we will pay half and see if he bites on that."

I would be fine with them submitting a check for the half they offered. It would be less hassle now you have to pay half for a new top just to try to resell it close as possible to retail to get the money to linex your blistered top an recoup your half of the money. Headaches, horseshit, and hassles!

Sounds to me like FCA is a little gun shy of litigation right now. Cheaper to keep the consumer quiet I suppose. I have a 'cash and keep' check coming soon, I'm told. For 'surface rust'. But I wonder if that will release them from any warranty claims in the future on my Jeep, with respect to rust?

Surely they could've sent you to a paint shop for a couple hundred dollar repair jobbie?

Guess not. Rather just replace top. But I have the MOPAR headliners and not sure how easy that will be to transfer to the new top

Hmmm, interesting. I would call them back, find out the what, when, how. They are offering value which is 50% of a new top. I have no clue what a new top costs but I would image few K????

Lets say for giggles a new top is 3k. Even if they take the old one in exchange then you have a new top for 1.5k, and have improved the value of the vehicle.

If you say no thankyou to the offer then you have an old top that is lifting off and blistering. You are going to have to pay to spray something on top of the blistering top and who is to say that will be the end of the problems?

$3250 for top, $450 labor.

But new top will get scratched, damaged again, etc. I wanted to linex it anyways. But yeah, 1 time change to get a new top on a almost 4 year old jeep.

I only use the HT between june and oct.

DirtyBoy did you install the headliners? I've got no experience with them but assume double sided tape?

If you chose to get a new top then a good sharp scraping knife (razor blade style) I think would do the job.

$450 to take one top off and put another one on? What are they hiring the local rocket scientist to do it? LOL

Yes, few months now. i am worried might not come off easy and yeah, double sided tape.

Right? Looks like 3 hours plus labor at $139hr.

If they say keep ild top, will show up topless and make labor cheaper
