New Jeep - Intermittent screeching in neutral

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3iiM6aXqbL4" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

So I purchased this 2015 wrangler sport on the 27th of March. It was virtually brand new, less than 7,000 miles on it and pristine interior & exterior. I bought it from the local Dodge dealer in town, so I thought it'd be fine.

Basically a week in, this sound started. Its totally intermittent, and seems to be no patter other than only in low gears or neutral. It's annoying and loud when it happens.

I took it to the dealership last week, showed them this video. They said it was fine because they couldn't replicate it. Well the issue has only gotten worse. Today I took it in and they claim that it's the break booster, but I've looked up videos on that and it doesn't even sound close.

Does anyone have any guesses as to what's going on here?

manual transmission? If yes, does the sound go away when you lightly press on the clutch?

I've got to say it's awesome to see Jeep have an account here on the forum and jump in when members mention potential warranty issues. Just awesome. I'm buying another Wrangler now.

Jasmine, THANK YOU so much!

The local Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep dealer said that this noise was normal tonight. A total joke, I think they just don't want to replace the tranny. I will PM you my information.

Lightly press the clutch pedal when it's making the noise.

Can't tell for sure from the video but most likely it's the throwout bearing.

If the sound stops when you press the clutch pedal, that probability goes to near 100%.

It is a manual indeed. However, I really am not sure this is it (I am not mechanic) - the only reason I think that is because the sound is so intermittent. Sometimes the sound doesn't happen until I'm engaging the clutch, other times it'll happen just sitting in neutral with no pedals engaged as you see in the video.

Maybe it still could be that throwout bearing?

Yes, it very well could still be it.

A bad TO bearing can make noise idling in neutral or whenever it is pressed against the clutch fingers.

Usually they will rattle most when idling in neutral or between gear changes.

That is EXACTLY when the sound is worse. I am going to investigate this, I appreciate the help!

UPDATE - ISSUE RESOLVED

Kingston Dodge was finally able to solve the issue. It turns out it was the catalytic converter, or a part inside of it. The awful sound is now gone and the Jeep runs as good as new!

Thank you to jaysong, ChuffHugginLoognat, CJREX and Jasmine from JeepCares!
