No FM/AM radio reception; CD & Satellite Ok

Hello Wrangler buddies. I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4-door). While driving today listening to AM radio, it went dead. I at first thought the station went off the air, so I switched to satellite radio. About an hour later, I checked back to listen to AM radio...still nothing. I checked FM stations...nothing. The indicator shows specific stations for either FM or AM; presets show proper stations, but there's no audio, not even static. CD player works properly. Audio is good for both CD and satellite.
Could it be a blown fuse? Any help/comments are appreciated.
Thank you very much. NDdiver

Stock radio?

I'm not aware of the tuner section being fused separately from the rest of the radio, so I doubt it's a fuse. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking either your tuner went kaput, or maybe the antenna came out of the back of the radio, antenna got damaged, etc. I'm thinking the former is more likely than the latter.

NDdiver - I had the same thing happen. I posted on this forum, only to learn that others too have had this same issue. It is a problem with the radio board and not at all related to your antenna - let me guess, your radio still shows station info and song title (wouldn't do this if it was an antenna issue).

My radio would work every now and then, but only for a few minutes, then cut out completely. On long drives, if left on, it would come back and scare the crap out of me. CD worked fine, as did bluetooth music, as did my centre console USB input. I got by as long as I could just using the radio to play USB music (64gig chip with my entire music library on it), but in the end missed having the radio so bought an aftermarket unit.

Quick note about USB music.. It plays songs alphabetically, unless you use the voice command and say "Shuffle Music On." U-Connect claims to only support 32 gig usb drives, however mine worked just fine with a 64.

Best of luck to you.

I'd check to make sure the antenna has a good connection back of the radio. Then run the antenna cable, there might be an extra connector in the run.

I also had my am/fm reception disappear on my 130.

I ended up replacing it with an Android unit.

FWIW, I got this Android Head Unit, and while it's only been in the Jeep for a few weeks, and my girlfriend has had the Jeep more since I installed it than I have, so far, I really like it, and it was a minimal outlay of cash.

Plus, being Jeep specific, no dashboard kit or soldering needed. It also came with the backup camera, but I haven't installed that yet.

That's reassuring, no doubt. Thank you for your reply and information. I took it to a dealer today, and the response was the same. The antenna is working. The signal is being transmitted to the radio. but the output from the AM/FM receiver is not being received by the amplifier.

I've ordered a new radio and it will be installed next week.

The dealer said the usual process is to send in the old unit, for it to get refurbished. Once that happens, it will be sold to replace another "bad" unit. Basically, I'll be getting a reconditioned radio...

I guess that's OK cause the price for the unit is less than $300. I'm happy with that.

I've only been a member of this forum for a day...it's already been a VERY valuable resource.

Thanks a million to all. Your info is much appreciated!!

The ROHS certification is to blame for this! This is the ruling that electrical solder should be lead free.... The new lead free solders are this was but the alloys used are flawed in that when they cool they form dendrites or crystals, they can easily divide or separate when cooling or when there are temperature variances. This very small movement can cause loose of electrical contact and oxide buildup preventing electron flow, in other works a bad solder joint(s)!
Cure for this is to hot air re-flow the soldering job or re-solder with 60/40 lead solder. Many repair techs are going back to leaded solder.
I have a Jeep Liberty next week for this very repair. The IC chip is smaller than your finger naail and has 12 pins on each side for a total of 48!

Hello everyone. Help me decide or tell me where the thread is???? I have a 2015 JK....What should I get the Alpine restyle x409 or the Ebay 2g + 32 similar to Seicane? I really want the x409 because of fit and it sounds like no issues that are finicky...but I don't want to buy a $300 backup camera with it. Also I want to be able to play Netflix and other apps.

Which one would you go with?

The radios in the Jeep are known to be low quality (and yes the issues are mainly due to solder joints going bad and other abnormal qualities like that), Thankfully when I bought my Jeep the radio did this the second day (technically with in 24 hours) so I got that resolved along with the turn signal stalk replaced at the same time, I have sinse switched to an Android HU and have not looked back honestly....though I do kinda regret throwing the dash surround out, but that had also started to break apart so.......
