Opinions, pls: fix my new jeep or demand replacement?

Hi everyone. I really want to get some advice from long-time Jeep owners. I ordered my 2014 JKU Sahara and picked it up on 12/26/13. At 336 miles, the check engine light came on; transmission valve body needed replaced. Five days (and 130 miles later) after picking up the Jeep from the valve body replacement, the check engine light came on again; this time it's the PCM that is bad and needs replaced (total of 503 miles on the Sahara). What I would like to find out is if I should file a formal claim with Chrysler and request a new Jeep, or trust that Chrysler will make things right and fix my Jeep so that I can actually drive it without worry? I really feel like I can't rely on this jeep anymore, especially since the second event. I should mention that I bought my Jeep specifically for taking my three huskies on road trips to go hiking, camping, etc. The service manager isn't being all that helpful ("this is Chrysler's fault, not ours") and doesn't seem at all fazed that a brand-new Jeep is having these major issues. I have been assigned a Jeep caseworker that is supposed to be helping me with this, but they have yet to contact me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm really bummed out because I've waited a long time to get a Jeep.

Research your state's lemon laws. 2 separate problems don't usually qualify. When the TIPM id bad it usually shows itself early as yours did. The first problem might actually have been the result of the bad TIPM which showed up later. Hopefully they have one in stock or you can get one fairly soon. Many people have had long waits to get them replaced.

I would be very disappointed also! Are they giving you a replacement Jeep during the service?

Not a Jeep but a Chrysler 200. The first time they gave me a Dart.

Well, supposedly there will be one delivered on Monday. I made a big stink and asked them to fast track the repair, it was the least they could do.

The problem with the valve body is that there were metal fragments inside of it left over from the manufacturing process, according to the service manager and Chrysler. Apparently there are a handful of a Jeeps that were built around the same time as mine (Dec. 2013) that had the same valve body problem.

I don't think they are going to give you a new Jeep. I suspect you can always try but no guarantees.

The positive: at least the warning lights are doing their job and identifying issues. And the dealer seems to be stepping up to the plate and fixing them. You have full factory warranty for quite some time, assuming they are fixing all these things under warranty?

And if they are giving you a rental (it does not have to be a Wrangler) they are trying to do right - they don't have to give you "same vehicle" for a rental.

I too would be a little upset with a brand new vehicle. But any vehicle (not just Wranglers) can come with "gremlins".

Keep us posted what happens!

Very frustrating. But at this point, I would try to relax and let them fix it. This could be the last problem it has.

agree patience, although difficult in this situation is probably the best course of action. might not hurt to have a candid conversation with the General Manager of the dealership.

i wouldn't make demands or threats, just tell him what you're thinking. how disappointed you are, and ask what he would do if the roles where reversed. you might find that he's willing to make things right for you.

good luck!
