Perplexed!

Hello! 2013 JKU with 68k miles automatic trans. This is an intermittent problem;
Going down the road the jeep with chime once and some dash lights will come on and the speedometer will fall to 0, the jeep is still running however the lights flash on the dash, like ABS, Down Hill decent. It will chime again and speedo will jump up to the correct speed and all lights off. Other times it will do all the above and speedo will keep working. It never cuts out, or stops running.

I purchased a code reader when I put larger wheels and tires on, and had it plugged in Sunday, it showed no codes and no engine light has ever come on.

Thanks!

Did you flash it to calibrate the speedometer for the larger wheels and tires?

Couple of possibilities:
Battery terminal loose OR did you connect any accessories to the bolt that clamps the battery terminal? either will cause your problem.

Also, could be a bad wheel speed sensor. Inexpensive fix.

I recently hooked up my winch to the bolt clamps, I have checked them, but will recheck tonight. Then look into the speed sensor.

Thank you!

You cannot hook up the winch to the bolts that clamp the battery terminals. Don't ask me how I know! ;-)

That is your problem. Move the winch cables to an accessory bolt.

Sounds like loose battery cables or ground.

Had this same problem, ended up being what you described below. I had too many (read: there shouldn't be ANY) accessories attached to the clamp bolts. Move the accessories to the other bolts, and make sure your ground is nice & tight.

Move the winch cables off the clamp bolts.

The battery terminals have bolts for accessory's, don't use those even if the manual says to use them?

What accessory bolt did you use?

Just look at FattyMcJ's post. Don't use the hilited bolt! Double up on any of the other 3 shown.

Also check the grounds in the driver’s side footwell. There are 2 or 3 and all need to be nice and tight. I had the same issue because one of those was loose. Tightened them up and problem gone.

Thank you maddog2020, pcardoza and FattyMcJ!

Then, make sure the terminals are tight. If they are, you'll need to consider that it could be a bad wheel speed sensor.

Tighten the battery cables. If not loose, then remove and tighten. Even a hair loose will cause this problem.
