If that is the case, then I too will pony up the ~$25 for a new doughnut and skip the skids, cross member, trans, gas tank shenanigans.

Yup. Definitely worth the minimal $$ to avoid having to do hours of work under the vehicle.

Did this get released?

As an answer to a question and an update to the thread, my shifter was supposed to ship last Friday but did not. Jegs call the manufacturer and it is supposed to ship today. I'll believe it when I see the shipping information. On the other side of this I am still excited about eventually installing this product and seeing an improvement on the issue that I'm having.

I think I am in a similar boat. My installer said his supplier said this week.

I have gone directly to B&M's thread for this product and requested a timeline on shipping the product twice now and have received no answers to it. And Jegs today told me maybe it will ship on the 16th after telling me yesterday it will ship today. If anything it seems like even Jegs can't get a reliable answer from B$M. Not giving me the warm and fuzzies....

Good luck to you!

We have been in close communication with production on this one and we do have an update for all of you. Although we were all expecting to have released these shifters sooner, they are not yet available. We apologize that the release dates have been pushed back several times, but shifters are comprised of intricate parts and we cannot rush the production or assembly process. Rather than provide another estimated date, we will let the forum know when these shifters have been completely packaged and staged for shipping. We truly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

Thank you for the update. Can I ask a question that I haven't been able to get a consistent answer too. Have any of these hit the market yet?

Thanks.

My installer says that we are on the first batch, so hopefully, that is true.

Has anyone found a part # for that "donut" so we can purchase a new one and avoid dropping the tranny?

It's here!

So, FedEX dropped off the package today. Box looks a little worse for wear but I don't here anything rattling around inside nor are there any holes big enough for anything to fall out... I hope. so we will leave it closed for now. I will post up some pics later today when I have the time to open it up and browse through the directions. Yes, I will actually read them.

Unfortunately, it will be late next week or weekend until the install. This Saturday the 20th is Topless Day in Monson, MA and being over a 2 hour drive out from me won't leave me much free time to accomplish the install this weekend.

But, at least it's here!

And some proof...

Ah yes, I like Solidworks alot other than I find it to be a little unstable at times. I run a facility that builds pharma equipment. I didn't even realize the sliders were up when I snapped the photo. Oops!

It's come a long way, I started using SW around 1999. Mostly precision mechanics, although I am designing some welded parts right now for a Jeep project.

I started with it around 2004. Just AutoCAD before that. I don't even like opening AC up anymore.

Another little project I just am finishing up. 1 ton tie rod and drag link made from 1.5" 7075 alum then anodized blue like my JK.

Coming from a Miata with a short shifter, the long throws of the manual are the one thing I really don't like about the Jeep. Off to order one of these.

Well, it's been ordered through the B&M link in post 70. Allegedly per the website there is stock available and it includes 3 day shipping. Fingers crossed.

In looking at the installation PDF, it doesn't appear that there'll be enough space to get the sealing donut (which I'm guessing is an open cell foam, rather than the Styrofoam it's called out as in the instructions) back down through the hole once the new shifter is in place if the tranny hasn't been lowered a bit - it looks like it is very close to the edge of the penetration.

It does, however, look like the metal plate atop the transmission tunnel is removable from inside the passenger compartment based on the exploded view in the link in Mike H's post 76 (item 8 - Bracket, shifter sled). It seems that more of the console may need to come out to do so, so I don't know how feasible it is, but a bit more work inside seems preferable to me compared to dropping parts of the vehicle's underpinnings...

I'll hopefully figure it out some time next week.

-Pat

installed

Hey Everyone,

Mine is installed. I didn't do the work, so I am not sure how they managed the donut issue.

It was installed yesterday, and it was only driven a little by the installer. It is super stiff. I only drove a few miles, and my arm is tired. The throw is definitely shorter. I don't have measurements from before, but it is much shorter.

I am hoping it loosens up some. Right now, it is super tough to shift.

When I first put the short shifter into my Miata many years ago, it too made the shift throw seem very stiff and notchy. At first my thought was "Oh crap, this was a mistake!", but after a week or two I acclimated to the new action and it quickly began to feel normal. Once that happened, driving one with a factory shifter felt sloppy and truck-like. (The short shifter in the Miata gives you a gear-to-gear throw of about 2-1/4", measured at the very top of the shift knob. It's almost like flicking a toggle switch.)

Give it some time, and I bet it will grow on you. I'm looking forward to getting and installing mine - when I first got the Jeep a short shifter was the first thing I looked for, and was quite disappointed that nothing existed at the time (2014).

i sat in a ram srt-10 before, and the shifting action on it was super slick! it was BY FAR the best shifter i have ever felt. if the B&M shifter is ANYTHING like that, sign me up!
