Radar detector hard wire with switch

I have a Escort Red Radar Detector , Escort Direct Wire SmartCord, Mirror Mount, and a CH4X4 Marine Rocker Switch mounted on my A pillar. My question is about wiring the Direct Wire SmartCord to the switch and have the switch light up. I plan on pulling conditional power from the fusebox, just not sure how to get power to the switch so that it lights up when not in use. The reason I need a switch is because I live in a state that allows radar dector use but travel a lot in a state that does not. Just need a convenient way of turning it off. Thanks!

Here is the wiring diagram if it helps, SmartCord has a positive and negative.

So negative to #8, jumper from #8 to #7 and negative from the SmartCord.

Conditional power from the fuse box to #2.

Red power wire from the SmartCord to #3.

Where do I connect #6? Where is the dash light circuit wire? (I'm googling it as well, just wanted to ask)

BTW, thank you!

I'm guessing I connect #6 to the orange/grey wire located in the wire loom behind the inside driver kick panel? Detailed in another thread here. Sound correct?

Looks correct, if you jumper 2 to 6 then the switch will alway be light up instead of just when the dash is on. I think it would be much better like this and you dont have to hunt for a good dash wire.

if the state does not allow radar detectors having it off does not meet the requirement of not having it... Skip the switch and throw it in the glovebox when you're not supposed to have it.

Just says you cannot have them operational, I'm sick of pulling it off my mirror mount and disconnecting the cable. For me it would be like having to disconnect your headlights in a state that didnt allow them. I would rather just have a switch to turn it off and obey the law.

X2, from my experience it is a violation to even have the radar detector visible in states that ban them. I would just hard wire it with the smart cord and when not in use unplug it and throw it in the center console.

If the radar is visible, how is the officer to know if it is functional or not?
Your argument has now become "yes I pointed a gun at him but there was no firing pin"

Either do the speed limit, its a Jeep after-all, or deal with unplugging it.

Either way, let us know the outcome.

It's not illegal to own a radar detector. You get busted for using it.

The police have a radar detector detector. That's how the pull you over for it.

Wiring as stated above was spot on, thanks for everyone who helped. As for the moral dilemma on having a detector in a state that doesn't allow use, that wasn't what was asked in the post. I appreciate everyone's opinions anyhow. Thanks again.
