Rattle/ buzzing under shifter

I have a '13 auto and recently it has developed a noise somewhere between a rattle and a buzzing coming from underneath the shifter. It is most prevalent when I am on the gas. Starts around 2,000 RPM's and higher. It occasionally does it all the time when it motion. Sometimes only when I have the RPM's up. If I leave it in park and rev to 2,000 RPM's I still get it, but not quite as loud. Thoughts? Anyone with similar experience?

I have a similar problem on a 2010 JKU auto, the noise seems like it comes from under the 4wd shifter, I know this has been discussed before but I can't find a solution to the problem, most people seem to just have it under the manual shifter.

It's extremely annoying, I only have 36000k on my Jeep and its been doing it since day 1.

I have a rattle on the transfer case (4WD) shifter also. I have a 2014 auto. If I put my hand on it the noise is gone. Just havent had the time to take the console off to inspect. Maybe that need to be added to the next off day to do list

Yes, that's my exact problem. Let me know if you figure out anything!

Next time you are sitting at a light and hear it, shift into 4 Hi and then back out. It goes away.

I can tell you in my case it ended up being cons that had fallen down in there. They would get up against the metal and start buzzing when I was moving. I took off the shroud around the shifter and dug out a bunch of change. I don't store coins forward of the shifter any longer and no more noise.

Mine only happens when flooring it or driving at higher rpms, especially on the highway.

It doesn't happen at all at idle.

This is my first jeep so I don't know whats normal but my 4wd shifter sits against the left side, right against the edge and I can move it side to side with ease, not sure if thats normal. It does take some pull to put into actual gear though.

Thanks for the replies so far guys!

I used to have a buzzing noise on my manual shifter knob. Turns out that it was the lower black trim piece on the very bottom of the knob. I had the dealer replace the entire knob under warranty because the top chrome colored piece was also broken, but the noise came from the bottom piece.

its just the 4 wheel shifter cable (or so i was told). but every time if you shift into 4 HI it goes away and usually when you go back into 2 wheel drive it stays away for a while.

Work great. I'm starting to miss the little noise as it was my driving companion. Lol

I have a 2014 auto, and I hear that dayum soft buzzing from the main shifter, not the 4WD shifter. Never at idle, or in park, but only when I am up over 35-40 mph. When I slightly push down on it, the noise goes away. Everything I have read about others having the problem either comes from a manual or the 4WD shifter. Still possibly the same cable? It's driving me f*cking nuts because its barely a noise at all, but enough buzz to aggravate my OCD. Im considering taking it to the dealer and letting them look at it.

I have had my '14 JK at the dealer on and off for the last 6 months trying to get this rattle figured out. They always give me the run around about it. I am going to a different dealership next week to see if they can fix the problem. The last time they worked on it, they tightened the 4wd shifter down and it stopped for about 5 minutes, then right back to the same thing. I'll let you know what I find on the 11th of Feb. Had anyone heard anything about this recently?

Give this thread a look and see if it might get rid of your rattle:

This is the rattle I'm getting , to be perfectly honest it sounds like a heat shield but I cant find it . I seems to be coming from just in front of the shifter .. Worst part is , it started just after the dealership put the trans. in. Grrrr. Jeeps.. If you notice my trans. is even in crooked , the black circle where the shifter gos in is not center with the hole in the body tub. This is causing problems going into second gear, as u can see the rusted steel ring they pealed back like a can opener to avoid the shifter hitting it going into second.. Now with the boot down its sooo hard to get into second.. Anyway ...any ideas on the rattle? Thanks...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lhi4...ature=youtu.be
