Raxiom Navigation vs. Pioneer AVIC NEX series??

I'm contemplating putting in a GPS head unit in my 2014 Freedom edition. My two reasons behind this is, adding a back-up camera, and having the GPS. I'm looking at either the Raxiom navigation or the Pioneer AVIC-7000NEX.

Can you guys give me some input on both of these units, some good input from personal experience? Some PROS and CONS of both?

if possible, include pictures on where you mounted your back up camera. thanks!!

There are a lot of forum members running the Raxiom Navigation System. The fact that it's completely plug and play is a big benefit to a lot of people. It includes the color back-up camera and you can even get a Raxiom Spare Tire Camera Mount if you don't want to drill the bumper for the cam. Other people will get a cheap plastic hitch plug and mount the camera in there. You have a few different options!

Take a look at the reviews and customer submitted images on the site. I think they'll help you in making your decision. Please feel free to shoot me a PM with any questions or if you'd like a quote! The unit is on sale right now and with a coupon code from me it's an even better deal!

Ryan, I actually found the Raxiom reading threads that you had commented on on this forum. Kuddos to your customer service. If I do order the Raxiom it would be from you guys.

My only draw back from the Raxiom, and I may be wrong, it the blutooth audio streaming. Does the Raxiom support this?
Currently I've got a 130 head unit (I beleive) with the Alpine system. I'm able to listen to my phone music streaming bluetooth. I'm not sure if that's through the head unit or Uconnect, but I don't want to lose that feature.

I saw on your website that the Raxiom needs a special adapter for the Sirius XM to function. But I didn't see that adapter on your website?

I'm just researching the Raxiom too. I just bought a new 2014 JKU two days ago. (I know it's a year old but only had 16 miles on it) anyway has the upgraded audio 130. But want GPS and the ability to stream music from my iPhone. Does the Raxiom support this?

Well I love my Raxiom. Looks stock, was an easy install, and works great. It will play music from an iPhone, or other device. It streams it via AD2P,( I think).
The pic from the included back up camera is very good as well. I also liked the ability to personalize it somewhat as well, with the splash screen. Plenty of nice features. I would buy it again.

Thanks for that info. I'm leaning towards the Raxiom. how did you mount your camera? I want my camera mounted on the spare tire carrier. I see they offer that mount now

Thanks for the kind words and support! The Raxiom unit does support bluetooth streaming of music from your phone through the stereo. And you're correct that the system requires a Sirius XM SXV200 Tuner in order to get XM channels. That is sold separately and we don't currently have them on our site.

Please let me know what other questions you have!

You won't be disappointed! You're going to have a great sounding system once you get all the new components installed. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help you with anything at all!

I pulled the trigger on a Raxiom too. Ryan is an incredibly helpful guy and I'm very pumped that he stands behind the product. I ran some questions by him already and he was quick with a response and knowledgeable.

I looked at all of the Pioneer offerings and was impressed with the reviews but I was not crazy about pulling out the Dremel on my new Jeep just yet. Seems that there are some minor fitment challenges there. I'm a big Apple guy so was tempted by CarPlay but I'm not sure it's mature enough yet so decided to wait.

I hope to do the install this weekend but need some good weather first. We'll see.

The plug and play aspect of the Raxiom unit without any modification to the interior definitely makes it attractive. I know you'll love it. Let me know if you need anything at all from me!

For anyone considering the Pioneer or any Double DIN unit, the dash modification is really a non-issue. I, too, thought I might have to use the Dremel when installing the Pioneer NEX after reading that modification was necessary. However, it turns out you only have to shave a very small lip (probably less than 1/8") off the bottom of a crosspiece at the front of the sub-dash. The plastic is soft and it took about one minute with a sharp knife.

Maybe someone can clarify but i was told by someone that has this unit installed that there is a menu item for "Rear Zone"

If that is the case i can hook up rear monitors in the jeep instead of stand alone dvd players.

Mine should be here tomorrow. Maybe i can get it installed and find out for myself!

Raxiom

Does the backup camera on the Raxiom come on automatically When in Reverse? Also, If I aleady have Sirius XM on my factory head unit, will I still need the XM SXV200 module? Cant I use what was being used on my factory unit to get Sirius?

Yes the back up camera would come on automatically.
Unfortunately you would have to buy the sirius tuner. I'm in the same boat

Actually the back up camera on the Raxiom gives me the option to have it auto engage, or select. I chose to have it come on when I select the CAM, as I like to look behind me sometimes when I'm not in reverse!

Yeah I knew it had an option for automatic or on demand..........me personally think I would rather have it come on when in reverse. Mine should be here today so gonna try to get it installed ASAP!!

Like Sharpie said, the camera does come on automatically. Since you're completely replacing the factory system, the XM tuner that you currently have will no longer be in place. You'll need to add the SXV200 to get XM on the Raxiom system.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Sirius XM recommended SXV300 (newer model) its backward compatible with the 200...not sure what the differences are. I just watched a you tube video where the installer hooks up the tuner but utilizes the existing Satellite Antenna (with an easy modification). Sharpie, or anyone else who has installed the Raxiom, did you use the antenna the tuner comes with? My issue is that the GPS antenna sits on the front of the dash (from what I can tell), I'd hate to have yet another antenna sitting next to it, unless I have to. Any suggestions/thoughts?

Guys, I just read a post that the Backup camera takes close to 10 seconds to come on once in reverse? Extreme Terrain confirmed that is normal for this unit. ANyone that has the unit installed, do you find this to be an issue. Seems a long time to wait once your throw your jeep in reverse but I dont want o overthink it.

Well i got mine installed this evening. Overall it went pretty smooth. It's really plug and play. Not much room for error. I tested everything before i finished the install, except the camera and I'm getting a no signal when it's plugged in. I think i forgot to power the camera up!

I'll play with it some tomorrow but initially it's awesome. The interface is great, the Nav looks fantastic, and the sound is much better! I'll post a better review tomorrow

To be honest I don't think mine takes quite that long, but I have never timed it. Also I don't have mine come on when in rev, as I prefer to just select the cam button. Yes you have to run a power wire from the head unit to the camera to power it. I just ran mine along the inside of the vehicle and down through the jack storage compartment, and plug it in inside there. I agree that the biggest struggle is getting all those cables stuffed in behind the system in the dash. Very tight.

Yeah mine doesn't take long. It's almost instant when i put it in reverse. Maybe 1 second
