Replacing damaged rear axle from 2011 to 2016

I need to replace a damaged rear axle on 2011 JKU Rubicon and a buddy has a 2016 rear Dana 44 with 4:10 from his 2016 JKU Rubicon that he put in new aftermarket axles. Is there any difference? I need a drop in replacement to get the vehicle back on the road ASAP. Thanks for the advice.

Rubicon to Rubicon should be pretty close to a direct swap.

I'm assuming that you have 4.10 gears in yours since it's a 2011. If so, you're good to go. If not and you really need to get on the road, you can still do the swap and run in 2WD until you do a gears swap to match the front and rear gears. Just pull the front drive shaft so you don't break anything if you forget and try to run 4WD.

I am not 100% sure on this but you might have to swap the yoke. I believe the drive shafts are different and if you have the stock one, it might not mount to the newer one that used an rzeppa equipped drive shaft. Other then that, they would be identical.

So are you wanting to replace just an axle shaft or the complete differential housing. ??? The complete housing is a direct swap. The axle shafts are also a direct swap.

I think the entire housing is an easy swap provided the gearing is the same, but if you're talking about parts then they're not compatible. The Rubi has a different gear set because of the locker and the axle shafts are not equal length like the non-rubi.

He wants to swap 14 Rubi into 11 Rubi according to the initial post.
