Rusty factory running board brackets

Hi all,

Have been lurking this forum for quite some time now and, based on what I've been reading, I'm hopeful that I will get some great advice to the issue I'm facing.

I have a black 2009 JKU with the factory running boards. The brackets are getting pretty rusty (live on the east coast of Canada), so I decided to remove the running boards and brackets so I could clean them up and repaint.

Now that I have them off I'm not sure what the best product would be to apply to keep them looking good despite all the salt that they will see (POR, bed liner, Tremclad, Rustoleum, rocker guard, etc.?). I'm thinking that since I have a black jeep my options are a bit broader.

Hoping someone else has tried something that worked well for them.
