Seat Belt Light Stays On

A couple weeks ago my seat belt light and chimes would not turn off. VERY annoying when driving into work.

I tried the paperclip method and still had noise and light. I even tried doing what the manual says to do to kick the chime off and nada. This tells me the sensor is not being recognized.

I eventually hooked up my Jscan tool and turned off the chimes, but still have the seat belt light on the dash.

After reading more I ordered a new seat belt. That came in over the weekend and instead of pulling my seat out to test, I just plugged in the sensor and buckled up. Light stays on still

What are my next options to get this back to normal besides going to the dealership? Have 44K on my JKU 2016 so out of the warranty.

Have you checked the switch in the passenger seat? There's one under the cushion used to detect whether or not the seat is occupied.

The weight of the passenger closes the switch letting the system know that it's occupied. If someone is sitting on the seat and they aren't wearing a seat belt, the chime and dash light are activated. (I discovered this one day when carrying a 5 gallon water jug that I had placed on the passenger seat. I initially couldn't figure out why my belt reminder was chiming)..

If you haven't done this.. Try buckling up the passenger seat belt. If that turns off the light, then the switch in the seat is probably at fault.

Go to dealer they scan it for u .
I will say maybe is pretentioner seat belt buckle is a connection at seat belt tentioner open circuit at buckle. As I remember on 2012 or before they have a recall on seat belt. Double check with ur dealer they will advise u.

Hi Ken, if you do decide to go into the dealership, feel free to let us know. I am happy to connect you with a case specialist to ensure everything goes smoothly while you are there.

It it not the passenger seat either. I went through both seats and unplugged everything and plugged everything back in. I then had someone sit in the passenger seat and same results.

Next time I go in for my last few free oil changes I will mention it to them, but for now at least the chime is off
