Sony DDin too tall to fit?

Hi all,

Just got the Sony Xav AX210, I got it all mounted up, went to put the dash on, and it’s just a cm or so too tall for the face of the dash to go over it.

Is it just me doing something wrong? Anyone have any experience on what to do?

I believe that's just a standard sized double din radio (3.93" high x 7" wide). Your (standard) dash cut out should be 3.93" x 8.125". It should fit pretty much perfectly height wise.

Maybe you're sitting a cm or two, too high?

Hmm maybe I’ll go measure. I took it all out and tried to just fit it through without any mounting and it still doesn’t fit. More than a few cm’s too tall. Gonna take it into cartoys tomorrow and see if they have ideas.

Also a question for you. I remember seeing you active in the Android head unit threads, do you still use one and if so how do you like it

Just measured, turns out it’s 4 inches tall exactly.

Weird. Quadratec said it’d fit. But now I can’t find it on their site.

Did you cut the lip off of the plastic brace running across the dash opening behind the outer dash piece?

yeah I did. It bolts in properly. But the face of the head unit literally won’t fit through the dash.

It's gotta be lined up wrong then.

The (stock) dash opening is 3.93 x 8.125

And here are the measurements from the Sony XAV-AX210 Taken right from their spec page:

Now it could be 1/16" out or something like that. Nothing is perfect so you may have to file a little, but if you're off by a whole cm then the head unit is either mounted wrong, or someone has placed some form of aftermarket dash plate on.

I’ve mounted quite a few DDins and I’m fairly sure I’m doing this one properly. I’ve double checked and taken it off and remounted a few times.

I’m going to just chalk it up to it not being as flush as I would have expected if it went like 1/8th of an inch forward it would be fine.
Thanks for your help though, I’m sure you guys get a lot of this type of stuff on the forums and it can be annoying I’m sure.

We had the same problem with a Pioneer WNEX4400-AVH. Had to file the bottom edge of the dash down ever so slightly to make it fit, and the motorized faceplate thing (which we wanted because it's removable) definitely didn't have enough room without modification.

It seems FCA's motto is "almost but not quite right".
