Strong odor/fume smell in cabin on hard accelaration

Hello guys

On hard acceleration, i can smell a strong fume/exhaust smell in the cabin. My jk is auto 60k mile 2013. The only way i can prevent the smell from entering the cabin is when having my AC on with air circulation on (prevent outside air from entering)

The smell is best described as an exhaust smell. It is not a gas or oil smell. I do not have any smoke coming out of the exhaust.

I would appreciate it if anyone has a clue.

That's normal with most vehicles, usually noticeable under hard acceleration. If you're getting an odor similar to rotten eggs, that's due to hydrogen sulfide that comes from the small amount of sulfur that is present in the fuel. Some fuels have more than others at any given time. The cats should break down the sulfur but sometimes they don't 100% of the time. There's always the possibility that there's an issue with one of the cats, but since you noticed it only under load they're probably fine. You should check to make sure you don't have an exhaust leak which the odor can then enter the passenger compartment. If there's a leak, you'll notice it more if you have a soft top. If you notice that there's a continuing problem, take it in and have it checked because the cats have an extended emissions warranty.
