Stupid Question about door wires?

Took the doors off my 08 for the first time. The wires were really hard to disconnect. When I put the doors back on temporarily I connected the straps but not the wires, and no problems. My jeep does not have power windows or door locks, so why does it have wires? My Guess is that it has something to do with turning off the radio and courtesy lights? If thats all they are for I am tempted to just cut the wires off and be done with it. Hopefully things will loosen up and it wont be a problem.

For anyone who is curious, I called the California Highway patrol to ask obout the legality of driving with doors off in CA. I was told that as long as you have 1 rear view mirror and one drivers side mirrors you are good. I went with the JAM mirrors Bought from amazon, the passenger mirror is blocked a bit by the vent and the mirrors shake a bit around the city, but they work great. The best part is they are simple to put on or take off.

Yes. doors are wired for power locks, windows etc regardless of if you have or not. My JK also has manual locks and windows. when the doors are off the radio stays on a little bit after shutting engine off, and I never get a door ajar reading on the dash. Mine are only slightly annoying to connect and reconnect, but I have kids so i like knowing if a door isn't shut all the way when they are on

If it doesn't have power windows or locks, the wires just connect to the lock mechanisms to report if the door is ajar or not. I wish the other wires had been there. I had to buy new door harnesses for my 09 to get the wires I needed for the power locks when I added them.

If you snip them, it will act the way it does with them disconnected so no dome light, the radio won't shut off until the delay expires and if a door isn't shut tight, you won't know it. Personal preference but not having that stuff when the doors are off drives me a little crazy.

The connectors aren't that hard to remove once you figure out which tab to press.. The only hard part about removing them and putting them back in is standing on your head looking up under the dash with a flashlight so you can see what you're doing.

And yes.. Courtesy lights are one of the functions of the wires. While you're head is under the dash, you'll see the floor light come on as soon as you plug in the connector.
