Tailgate Hinge Covers: Anyone Remove?

Got hit from behind yesterday, and the tailgate hinge covers got busted. Started looking for replacements, and they're expensive! Then found that some people leave them off. Thoughts?

When I had mine off, the paint was so thin that primer showed through. If you have this issue, you could paint or Plastidip them.

I have my hi lift mount there and it's a pain in the gonads to mount it with the covers so I ditched them, not needed in my opinion.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a mod.

I removed mine. To me they are just dust/dirt collectors. I like the look without the covers.

Mine pop off when opening the tailgate. I'm sure they'll be in the garbage soon. Plus the top one took a hit from a sledge hammer.

I broke one stepping down from my roof rack. You can get replacements from any Wrangler on the lot at the dealership... But seriously it's about $20. http://bit.ly/1hrgnBd. Maybe one of the folks above who said they took theirs off would send you one for the price of shipping and a few more for their trouble.

Call local off-road shops and have them save the hinge covers from the next TeraFlex rear tire carrier setup they do. A 6 pack should do wonders to make it happen in a short amount of time

I think they were around $20 each, which is pricey to me for a piece of plastic.

I don't really have any off-road shops around here, either.

I have the pair, after installing the Teraflex HD hinges. Let me know if you want them.

I think we all deserve to hear about the sledge hammer incident. You can't just leave that hanging there.

It's not nearly as funny as it should be. Installing the Ace tire carrier - took a sledge hammer to get it on.

My fault, night before a wheeling trip & I was thinking I could get it on myself. Uh, duh, no way. It was half installed, I couldn't get it to budge & there was no way I was missing out on wheeling so I begged a couple Jeep friends to come over & help. I think they had had a few too many to be working with a sledge hammer around my Jeep. They nicked the tail light too.
