Im sure this is a really dumb question, but I cant make sense of this stuff. It feels like I keep reading conflicting information everywhere.
My stock Sport S tire size is 255/75/R17. With a coil swap Ive gotten a bit more room underneath and I'd like to go a tad bigger in size. Im not really looking for tire width, but more height for ground clearance. More of what you guys call "pizza cutters" if you will i think. What would be the next common size up in height? What equates out to around 33" or so, as my stockers should be around 32".

for your wants a bfg ko2 in size 34x10.5-17 will be ideal. fit your stock rims and they run small for 34's so visually bigger than stock but not big enough to cause any issues.
^^^ what jadmt said or Cooper makes the st maxx in a 255/80r 17 that would work as well. 255/80r 17 would be the next metric size up in height without going any wider.
Good lord those BFG KO2's are expensive. Just about $300/tire. The stock tires on ine only have 500 miles on them...so basically brand new. Im not sure I can justify that much money on tires at this point. That doesnt seem to be a common tire size either, or the metric equivalent 255/80/17. Not too many tires to choose from. My plans re just light trail stuff for now, other than the Bantam Jeep Festival. I suppose my stock tires might be good enough for that stuff.
Am I the only one who's Jeep came with 245/75/17's?!
I had the same thoughts as you on the cost factor. I've been to an off road park twice with stock (31.5"), and they did fine if I was careful in tricky spots, even tackled a pretty intense blue trail! But going to the 34's was enough for me to justify, and I thought my stock tires would fit on my other SUV, but they didn't so I'll try to sell.
If mine came with the 255's(32's), I might have decided otherwise.
You will do fine at Bantam with stock, they will put in you in a group with other stock Jeeps. See you in Butler!!
Thanks for the information! At least I have some direction on what I should be looking for now!
Im definitely looking forward to Butler. It'll be my first time going. I registered for the Moraine Trail along with a few other things, including the playground/trails area. Definitely looking forward to it and Im glad to hear that I shouldn't be at too much of a disadvantage.
My 315/70/17s "should be" 34.4". They are really closer to 33.5-33.75"
