Tire upgrade question for stock sport

I have a 2015 wrangler sport completely stock, 225/75r16 tires/wheels, 3.21 gear. I'm looking to upgrade to the 255/75r17 goodyear duratracs. A shop I went to said that I would need a lift (2" to 3") because it'll rub due to the fender. I've searched a lot through the forums and haven't seen this specific question. The rims are the rtx offroad thunder 17x8.5. Advice on whether or not the lift is needed would be great! I want more of a meaty tire look, I feel the lift will make the wheels appear slightly thinner/smaller

They will fit without a lift just fine with no lift. It is a 32". A 32" tire is what I had on mine before the lift. A leveling kit with that tire would look perfect

I've got a set of 255/75R17 Goodyear Duratracs on my 2012 Sport with no lift. Fit and ride fine.

2015 JKU Sport S had factory 255/75/17 GY SRA's, now has GY Duratrac's in the same size.

No rubbing, no issues, it's all good. Enjoy your new Duratracs!

I put 275/75/16 which is almost your size on my stock Sport 17..all fine no need of a lift. However the front fender had to be sawed off a bit as it rubbed on a full turn.
I did it at National 4x4 great folks know thier stuff.

Out of interest, if you order the 2017 basic Sport in Canada you have three tire options

P225/75-16 on silver steel wheels
P245/75-16 on black steel wheels
P255/75-17 on Moab aluminum wheels

In the U.S. you only have the 16 inch options. You need to go up to the Sport S for 255/75-17 tires.

Yep, and then you get 7 1/2" wide wheels instead of 7" wide.
