Transmission Problem!

2013 2-Door JK w/ 2.5" Teraflex lift and 33" duratracs (3.21 gears)

Have had the 33s on for just over 2 years, lift for 1.5 years.
I didn't touch the speedo calibration for the first year and half of running the 33s. Started having a couple problems about 6 months ago so i picked up a procal to recalibrate the speedo and shift points. Didn't fix the problem as i had hoped.

Problem 1. Mainly on the highway which is a bit scary. I'll be cruising in 5th gear and i'll notice the RPM gage kind of twitching around 1800rpm and then suddenly the jeep will jolt, feeling like it downshifts, but in fact the rpms drop and it remains in 5th gear until i manually shift it into 4th to get the rpms back up. It seems to happen consistently at the 1800rpm mark. It's getting worse

Problem 2. maybe related, but not sure. I'll be sitting at a stoplight and the engine shuts off. Haven't tried increasing the idle speed, because i don't think i should need to. This has also happened when rolling in forward or reverse out of parking spots from a stop. I've had the exact same thing happen in a Mazda3 (my last vehicle). Sounds like this problem has a known fix with the crank position sensor replacement.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. maybe there is a known solution (praying its simple). Or I just trade it in for a Rubi with gearing that actually supports 35s out of the box

How do you know it's in 5th gear? Just asking because my 2012 only shows what gear you are in if you manually shift, and once you go past 4th it just shows that it's in drive.

Sounds to me like the jeep is going into overdrive when the RPMs drop but its having troubles shifting. Having 3.21s isn't helping you either.

How many miles since the last fluid change?

I know itís in 5th because when i go to manually downshift it shows 5th.

Sometimes it almost gets stuck in gear and wonít downshift unless i either manually shift it or literally floor it.

I know the 3.21 gearing isnít helping but Iíve had this gearing with 33s for a long time before any tranny problems.

Iíve had the jeep for 36k miles, itís got 59k now. I havenít done a tranny fluid change

5 year powertrain warranty. Is yours still covered? Call your dealership tomorrow and find out.

I would definitely do a fluid and filter change then. Since you are having issues I would take it somewhere to get a proper flush done.
